ok i have a 99 civic hb. i can get an ls engine and wiring harness for 750. i plan to turn it into a b20 turbo....in the future. i can take out a loan for 2000. will this be enough to get me started and about how much can i buy with this money.
now i am planing to do this right and the first time so i dont waste money. would it be better to get an after market ecu or a stock ls. what would be a good tranny for it. i dont have to have to engine in the car right away. so i can build it as money comes along. will ls axles be ok with the turbo or should i just get better ones now.

I would probably get a 99 or newer LS engine to keep your car legal. If you plan to turn it into b20 turbo, I would just get the b20z block(has knock sensor), then get LS tranny, LS intake manifold, LS head(optional) and axles. I have an LS swap in my 97 hatchback and am planning to just juice it (55shot) untill it dies and then just do a b20 with my tranny, ecu, and intake manifold. I might even use the LS head if thats not blown. I don't know if its true but most people on this board say the b20 and LS heads are the same. I have a haynes manual (it sucks but got me through the swap) and all the specs of the two heads are identical except that the exhaust cam has a little different grind. Don't know which is better, but I assume the LS is better because its in a more sporty car to begin with.

unless that LS engine you can get is newer 98-up id get it but IMO

I would go straight to the B20..why waste time and money if thats what you want...just buy the a B20 engine, GSR tranny, and a LS intake manifold and axles...oh yeah and something for the PCV system..

As for the ECU..an LS would be ok for starters..when youre ready for turbo..thats when you upgrade to Hondata..

 

slap turbo on LS motor and you 'll be fine, nuff said!

 

why not just get the gsr motor, not as much torque as the b20 but more than the ls? then a nice turbo?

 

correct me if i am wrong but isnt an ls block stronger then a b20.
how much is a hondata ecu and where can i get one. will it work with out the turbo. i dont want gsr because everyone does them and i want to be different and i like the torque of the ls, b20.
