Anybody have a DIY tutorial on how to do this?
I wanna put an OEM steering wheel in for the airbag in my 96 ek hatch
Or does this have to be done professionally cause of the airbag?

I took my stock wheel off, put my aftermarket on, put another stock one off. It's not hard. If you're nervous, take off the negative terminal of your battery.

It's basically the same for a 96-00.

i wouldnt disconect the neg terminal if i was nervous, i would disconect it just because its smart/safe. But he is correct

You have an aftermarket steering wheel on there now and want to put the OEM one back on? (Sorry, bit confused).

I can tell you one thing. NJ is a lot like NY in its auto-laws. Anybody that lives in either of the states will know (or should know) that they also joined state databases, meaning if you're wanted in NJ, you're also wanted in NY.

Two, very close states in terms of legal systems.

With that said, I can tell you for sure whatever you're doing, get that aftermarket quick release crap outta there. If you get into an accident, knowing that you messed with OEM equipment, the insurance company regards (read your policy) and has a high chance of ELIMINATING your entire claim, meaning you get $0, regardless of what happens.

I've seen it done, it's fucked up. Tho if you get into an accident say 50mph the air bags should deploy, and if you have an aftermarket steering wheel they obviously won't.

Though it seems like you're putting an OEM one back on, so good for you .

 

Yeah I'm buying the car from a guy in NY, he has an aftermarket wheel on there, and I have an OEM one to put on for the airbag.

well here in nc i haven't heard that so i'm gonna put a quick release on because there so many thieves..... its not a bullet proof plan but its better than nothing.... so a quick thread jack if i put on a aftermarket steering wheel how do i stop the srs light form coming on do i just take the bulb out??????

i just took my bulb out, i heard that you can use a 2 ohm resistor (i think) so that the passenger air bags will work.
