Hey guys im thinking bout taking a small step with my car. It currently has ran a best time of 14.88 @ 92.09 with I/H/E and no cat. If I have time this week I think I am going to pull my head of and do some port work. I did this to my sohc civic and went form 15.6 @ 87 to a 14.9 @ 91.5!!! So now im thinking of doing the same to my si. Im hoping to get around 14.5 at 95mph. All port work was done by me and I will be doing my own port work again. Any thoughts?
...please post up pics. of the port job when your done, so we can compare it to the "hondamaster's" head that was done by "poorflow" aka mugre from b20vtec.com

Im not a professional by any means but all I do is port match the exhaust ports to equal that of the exhaust gasket and then open up the two runners inside the exhuast ports. On the intake side all i do is clean it up a bit cuase its almost the same as the gasket anyways. I do this with the cheap drimal kit from wal-mart LOL!!
nsxmatt- the only reason I set my goal to 14.5 @ 95 is because like I said above my old 94 SOHC civic vtec went from 15.6 @ 87mph to a 14.9 @ 91mph. If I dont gain anything from this then im ok with it. But i think I will atleast see a 14.6 from this. 2 tenths from port work is very reasonable but im going to hope for a 14.5 or 3 tenths.
If you guys ever feel the edge of the exhuast ports on your head youll notice there is a sharp lip on there. That part only take 5 min to take off. and thats doing all 4. If i remember correctly i opened up each port 4-5 mm side to side. Thats alot if you ask me. But thats more than 5 min of work.

exospeedAMcrx- I currenty run 50 series but stock i know is 55 series.
MikeySpec- I want a tuned ecu but I havent decided what program to go with and plus i havent seen many dynos with the ecu being the only change on mild setups. Do you have any links?

julio_bOostamante -
I launch at 7,000 rpm feathering the clutch making sure the rpms dont drop below 6,000. Once the car starts rolling where i want i let the clutch all the way out. the best 60ft i have pulled is 2.24ft . The tires are Fate O a/r 550 advance, whatever those are. I bought the car with these. I shift just before rev limiter.

Well guys plans have changed. I started taking the tranny out last night. I have everything out but the axles. So today im getting a fidanza 7.5 pound flywheel and ACT clutch from my friend at a decent price. I decited to go this route due to the fact that my clutch slips (150K mile car). Wish me luck with the install. I will get back to eveyone when im done. The port job will wait for another day when i have more cash for the head gasket and stuff.

Well it rained this evening but I did pick up my parts. They look so good for being used. I will post pics of the product as soon as I get them up.
Anybody seen a difference at the track with a flywheel? I will be for sure to post my results for my flywheel clutch combo. Fisrt test will be to race my friend who has ran a 14.6 @ 94.1 in his b16 DX coupe.
I will keep everyone posted.
EDIT- Im still going for 95mph and a 14.5 but I think it will take more than a flywheel/clutch to do it.

Update- Clutch and flywheel are in. The car seems to rev faster and it feels alot better when I shift gears. The old clutch was worn all the way down pat the rivets! So yeah this feels so much better.
I think the car is a 14.7 maybe a 14.6 with an excelent launch at around 93 or so. But hey only the track will tell. i will update after I take it to the track.

The flywheel and clutch made a decent gain in response. I raced LDS on the street and his car pulls alot more than it did. Knowing LDS the car will faster within a short period of time!!

Lovely *** dyno figures there. You can feel a tenth of a second and a mph gain! Thats AWESOME!
As for the large gains on the SOHC head, thats easily explained as the SOHC heads don't flow for crap. Huge room for improvements on those. The B16 head is another story. I highly doubt you will see more then MAYBE 1mph gain from it, if that. Your more likely to see a loss.

Definately quicker verified how? My point exactly..

Update - I went 14.8 twice then i poped off a 14.781 @ 92.08 Car pulls more mph in the 1/8 but lags a little up top. Mph in the 1/4 were high 91s on the 14.8s. I did run dragradials but all i got was the same ol 2.2 60fts. I also ran 18psi in the tires insted of 35 witch i think lead to the less mph up top. I think on street tires the car would do roughly the same but a lil more mph.
the DRs should have worked wonders but whats killing you is that stupid flywheel. you have no rotating mass to keep the weak 1.6 rotating. once you learn to drive a little better you still could eek out 2.0s with the B16 i know i did.

the DRs were 205/50R15 and my stocck tires i run on are 50 series i can remember if they are 205 or 195 though.
So you think I should throw the stock flywheel back in and i will see a gain?
