Redline Time Attack - New Rules
Hey all,
After running our last season of the Redline: Time Attack, we've come up with some revised rules that should better serve you the racer.
Most of the changes have been applied to the street class, but other classes have been slightly modified as well.
You can find all the rules here:
http://www.redlinetimeattack.com/index-2.html
As before the tire choice is what largely separates the classes. However, there are now some changes that should better differentiate the three classes.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Our next Time Attack will be on FEB 10 & 11 at California Speedway.
Thanks,
Chris

Primedia/Super Street introduced the Micro class in their Nov. which I thought was a good idea. Will you guys plan to implement something like that? Obviously it is for the newer small cars from Japanese car makers.
Also, after reading the rules I have a car that is eligible in FF class in both street division and modified. Can I enter both classes? I would simply run street tires and R compound tires respectively.

We've decided not to run a micro class this year. I think the micros do well enough to compete in our normal FF class. It's not a bad idea, but we're not ready to go that route just yet.
You can run in two different classes if you like. Some racers do compete in more then one class, and we do allow it.

you should have some bonus prize for setting new records. :-) like bonus cash $250 or something, or money back for the entry fee for the new record setters.

Thats not a bad idea. I may have to look into that.

I agree with Chris... .Micro cars can do just fine in our FWD classes. I dont see a need at this point in time to create a seperate class just for them.
One option is for a company to sponsor an award set specifically for the Micro cars (Fit, Versa, etc.) that can be awarded to the top 3 in that specific category of car... Just as Crawford and AMS are giving awards to the top finishing Subarus and EVOs (respectively).

This is nothing like a NASA or SCCA time trail.
This is a traditional time attack race.
You have three hot laps on a track to get your fastest time.
visit redlinetimeattack.com to get more info on how the day is run.
You'll see this is no time trail race.

They are different.
NASA TT offers 20+ minute sessions with open passing in traffic and transponders running, where the fastest lap each day counts.
NASA TT requires significant (instructed, then non-instructed) experience and licensing to participate.
Hope it helps,
Jon

At SuperKool's link way above, I read:
"Factory restraints are permitted for any vehicle in street class. If four/five/six point harness is utilized, car must have harness bar installed."
PS- Some people believe that you shouldn't use harnesses with anything less than a 4-point rollbar, for fear of being pinned in the seat during a rollover.

Street classing doesn't make much sense to me.
You can take out your backseat, remove carpet/headliner, replace hood and trunk with CF; allowed aerodynamic undertrays and roll cages. But you have to have the car registered? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense for those who are truly going to modify their cars to the limit of the rules and go for an overall championship. Not to mention the illegality of engine swaps in most states... or the misuse of the word "dampener" which actually means "to make wet" instead of using "damper"

Yeah, those of us who don't think living the remainder of our lives as Christopher Reeve did is appealing.

it makes perfect sense to me.
Since i was stupid and didnt build my car for a specific NASA or SCCA class its hard to get into a race. However since my car is my daily driver in the summer, a designated track car on the weekends....that class is perfect for me.
edit: i am a bit disappointed that fender flares aren't allowed. Especially with the new Hoosiers coming out.

Redline gang: I also recommend keeping a list of top 5 times per chassis. This is for information purpose so companies can brag they tuned the fastest chassis. For example, EG hatch backs, Evo8, Evo9, Integra DC2, EF Civic hatch... etc.

I completely understand how it works for someone who isn't looking to win a championship - someone just taking their fast DD out on the track. But thats not how competition works, someone is going to build a car to the limit of the rules and it will end up being illegal to drive on the street...but ironically its supposed to be registered with your state.
I have a Sentra just sitting in my garage that isn't competitive in any other sanctioning body's classing structure. I'd love to bring it out to Redline events, I think it would do very very well with a turbo/VE motor and some suspension geometry fixes. But I sure don't want to register it and give money to the government when I'm never going to drive it on the street.
I'm not bashing you guys - I just think you might want to rethink this for '08. Is the schedule for '07 finalized? Are you going to be adding more dates?
Thanks
