got tranny has about 180k....tranny just gets hard to get into first sometimes and grinds slight in 2nd and third...i read all the stories about ppl putting in the GM syncromesh with friction modifier and about 500 miles after the new oil...grinds are getting better, and tranny is smoother....but the question is i also heard some stories that after couple thousand miles, tranny starts to whine becuase of incorrect viscosity...or something...and after swapping back out to honda MTF...whine goes away? has anyone use the syncromesh for years and have no complains? i read ppl who has driven on it for like 500 miles and they vouch for it but has anyone driven like 10k miles or so and still feel the tranny is better with the syncromesh? i don't feel like going to a GM dealer and paying $11 for tranny fluid if it isn't gonna help...

at the same time i heard syncromesh works wonders for our tranny...only concern is im not sure is the syncromesh stuff a little too thick for our cars...or is syncromesh just like 10w-30?
where is the cheapest you can get the honda MTF or is it only at the dealer/?.. bc i jsut have 10w-30 in mine and it grinds in almost every gear and its hard to get into some gears... it could be the syncros are bad or jsut the fliud i jsut think right now its cheaper to change the fluid first....anyone?
Wow! 10w-30. I wouldnt even put that viscosity in my tranny! Thats too light, bro. Thats why your tranny grinds every gear. I dont remember what I put in mine but its either 75w-90 or 80w-90. Change that **** ASAP before your tranny falls apart.

what about the honda MTF i can only get that at the dealer right?.. and what about syncromesh ****.... dont honda tranny's need that syncromesh in the tranny..
yea man i got the thick **** that looks like slime... 80w i think cause i was always told that 10-30 work but i went through 3 trannys like that... i thought that it was something else... so then i buy a cheap four speed to get to work and used that thick **** and im still good... its been about 8 months now and i still have it...
i hate the four speed though

Read before you speak. Preferably a Helms manual. 10w-30 is the viscosity of genuine Honda MTF. Also read your owners manual, 10w-30 motor oil can be substituted. Stick with 10w-30 MTF.
Used it for over 210k, no problems. If you picked up a tranny with a grind already in it you can go for the synchromesh, just know your only covering up the problem, over time it will start to grind again. Replacing synchros would then be your only option. And if it developed a grind since you've had it, shift smoother.

You can pour in the fluid via the speedo cable. 1.9qt. Might as well throw in two whole bottles.

just grind/file the bolt till the sides arent stripped anymore

holy crap, you people using that slime for your trannys are stupid.. your probably losing like 2 hp just because of the extra friction too. lol. anyways.. why wouldnt you just use what your manual tells you to use?

exactly....10w-30 is what it uses for the older honda manual transmission until it came out with the Honda MTF. again...i just wanted to know exp with synchromesh over time...i mean i know it covers up the problem but does it make it worse in the long run? as of now since i already have two bottles of the MTF i'm gonna just put that in for now. no point in trying to find the syncromesh for $6.99 a bottle....might as well jhust get another tranny when my new motor is gonna go in.

Lucas heavy duty oil additive (supplement) Any of it! Especially the thickest of them. We've all turned the little display gears at the cash register counter. The lube sticks to the white plastic gears that are stacked one on top of the other inside the clear plastic display case. Currently trying to solve a good friends cracked tranny case that leaks 1.9qts per 5miles. She has put well over 700 miles on the tranny , '89 crx 5spd manual L3-1568767 under a D15b2. I've tried to keep fluid in it. More often than not it is dry, except for what is stuck to the gears, the stuff that didn't get spit out. When I fill it with lucas, its like driving a perfectly running car. Lucas makes a gear oil additive you can mix with anything and voids no warranties. I would say the same to my mom and my God! I'm new to this Honda world and I'm wondering how I stayed so ignorant for 25+/- years of such an exceptionally engineered vehicle. Honest!
Oh okay. I didnt know that. But I'm still stickin with the 75w-90. Cuz anyway I have a leaking CV-AXLE seal. Puttin in 10w-30 will only make things leak alot faster. But will replace soon. I'll try the 10w-30.
