What were your reaction times? You must have got out the hole quicker.

It matters because it's a bracket race (assumption on my part). Search Bracket Racing in google or wikipedia and you should get a pretty thourough explanation

This is really basic but here's how it works:
-Reaction time is how long it takes for you to get out of the stage beams after the green light comes on.
-The clocks (your ET) don't start until you're out of those beams. You can sit on the line for 5 seconds building boost and it won't have any effect on your ET.
-Trap speed (MPH) means nothing basically, it's just how fast you were going on the top end. It's a good gauge of how fast you could go and how much power your car is making but besides that, means very little.
-Your ET is how long it took you from leaving the stage beams to break the beams on the top end of the track.
So if your reaction time is a tenth of a second better (a .050 vs. a .150) and you run a 15.2 and the other guy runs a 15.1 you'd be crossing the finish line at the same time.
I hope that helps. You can find a lot of this stuff on google or here though so try searching around for drag racing basics.
