Default Dead engine, please help.

Hi. I have a canadian 99 Civic Si coupe (same as US EX, i.e. VTEC SOHC). Engine is stock, save for a remote starter.

Just before the holidays, I left from home. The car was running fine. About 3 kilometers out it just suddenly died. Went straight from 2500 rpm to 0. The engined would turn if I left it in gear, but wouldn't start. Put it in neutral, tried to start it, starter would crank but the engine would not start. Managed to tow it back home with my truck. I do have spark when I try to start it. It does have gas (about 1/4 tank), plus the engine did not die like an engine that's out of gas. The "check engine" light doesn't come on, so my code reader is useless. Other than that, I don't even know where to start looking.

I found a few threads here that deal with engines dying, but nothing is quite like what I got. Anyone can give me a few pointers?
Thanks

Is there a way I can do that in my driveway or do I HAVE to take it in the shop?

Just checked, can't find it. In all honesty, I don't know what I'm looking for. If I find it, how can I tell if it's good or bad?

Don't know how to post pics, but I don't see anything under the carpet per se, but a bunch of connectors under the dash and behind the center console. I can send pics if it helps.

Thinking of buying a service manual from Ebay...
