Default Spoon Cluster (Searched, but a bit confuse)

I see that there are two versions of spoon cluster for DC2. 96 spec and 98 spec.

My questions are:

1) How do u really tell if the spoon cluster is for 98 spec or 96 spec, like what are the visual differences?

2) Can a 96 spec spoon cluster be modify to work perfectly on a 98 Spec DC2?

thx in advance, need quick and clear responses.

The only difference i can think of is that the 96spec one wont have an SRS warning light. It was an optional extra on 96spec cars and i have yet to see on that did have an SRS steering wheel, and ireland is absolutely flooded with 96spec JDM ITRs.

yes, it should be like swapping in any other japanese cluster in, just have to remove the green film on the back and swap it. That usually takes care of the problem.

Easy indication.

Yes, it can be modified if you still have your stock cluster.

I've been told that the 96spec cluster used in a 98spec model, the oil and water temp gauges are reversed, therefore giving inaccurate readings. As Jarel stated above, you can simply get the green film from a 98 spec gsr or type r and that should resolve the problem.

It's actually a catalyst "overheat" warning light. I'm not exactly certain why it was deemed a necessary warning or how often the converters overheat, but it's there nevertheless.

True, having owned 8 JDM imports (genuine cars from japan) i have yet to see that light come on when driving. It lights up on ignition and then goes out again. On my last car (Si-VTEC) i fitted the cat temp sensor into a phase racing test pipe with an DC JDM 4-1 and had on several occassions, the test pipe glowing bright red from heat yet the cat temp light never came on. Theyre basically useless!
