Does anybody actually know for sure (and by sure I mean, like a statistic chart (legit), or the Honda website, or something) what the hell the VTEC engagement point is on a D16Z6 (bone stock P28)???
I'm sure some useless **** sucker is gonna say "duh" and start flaming but whatever. I've heard COUNTLESS times argued on here between the VTEC engagement point being 5500 or 4800. Everybody's "sure" it's one - and people argue about it. One's SURE it's 5500 and the other's SURE it's 4800.
Does anybody have any legitimate answers for this?
The D16's VTEC is next to nothing, so I don't exactly chirp the tires when it kicks in.
EDIT:
Please don't tell me to search, there's TONS of topics ALL disagreeing about the VTEC engagement point - some say 5500 like the GSR, some say it's 4800.
I have yet to find either claim backed up by actual ******* data aside from the butt dyno.
I'm sure somebody that tunes P28 has to know, or somebody that has a .bin for chrome for a stock P28 load it up and tell me what it's set as??

Straight from the Helm manual
D16Z6: "engine speed above 4,800 rpms"
B18C1: above 4,400 rpms under high load
above 4,800 under low load
IABs (secondary throttles) activate above 5,750 rpms
I have both an Si hatch and a GSR, I can verify both.

Finally, thank you very much.
I <3 you.
Holy ****, that took like a year of me semi-caring to get a legit answer on.
I'm tellin ya, some pple (ESPECIALLY HERE ON H-T) will swear on a stack of bibles that VTEC engagement of a D16Z6 was 5500 and I thought it was 4800....so it was an argument getting nowhere without proof either way aside from butt dynos...
As for the GSR, might have been the IAB's I heard activating around 5500.
Anyways. If anybody knows, what constitutes heavy loads opposed to light loads? 50% throttle or higher?
Aside from that this topic's finished. Thanks a bunch man -

Someone must have cracked you in the head because you sure as hell don't know what the expletive you are talking about.
One my brothers Civic coupe(d16z6) STOCK he put my old power fc on it, you can monitor engine rpms, digital. i know it is somewhere close to 4800rpm. Kinda hard to tell because the number move so fast, but there is no way in hell that its 5500rpm

So the D16Z6 VTEC engagement point is back to 4800...and nobody's quite sure what the GSR is yet?
(this is what I meant by I searched, but only found fights about it)
Hey, how do you run digital RPM readings? You have to convert the signal from analog to digital, which I know is a pain in the ******* *** b/c they had to do it to get it to work with the S2K cluster in an EG or an EK. So what are you using? What's your wiring setup from the dizzy to the tach?

Well ignore the OBD differences - Are you sure it's 5500? People down at the bottom here seem to disagree.
(I'm talking about your Y8 here, not a Z6)

100% incorrect. You're a ******* idiot.

I still find it haaaard to believe my tach is off by 400rpm. My tach reads 5200 on the dot when it engages. Have countless ppl in my car to witness it. Oh well...not disputing anything...just saying where mine engages and it's virgin p28.

you dont have a z6, nobody said a Y8 crossed over at 4800rpm.

ABOVE, high load, low load, all sorts of things affect exactly what RPM, but its always ABOVE 4800rpm on a z6. y8 i believe is ABOVE 5200rpm, but not sure on the p2p ecu.

You know I was wondering the same thing. But to me I thought people said 4500 or 5500. I know my comes in late. Although my buddy has a d15B vtec and swears its 4500.
So I was going to test out and put in a Vtec light, I know ricey, but Then I can now say what rpm my d15b comes into vtec.
I thought DOHC sutch as the b18a1 came in at 4500.
