define "best" first

best power? best reliability? best torque? best for the price?

well in theroy both can be equal in the aspect for full out drag racing, but for every day driving VTEC as well in theroy would be better... both LS and VTEC engines can have an equivalent cam lift in higher RPMs and in a full drag situation off of the launch you will already be in a position to have the engine being used to it's fullest potential, where as on the street the launch on street tires leaves you with a lower RPM launch where VTEC cam design allows a more effective low range lift and a high rpm lift...

if you're not fully understanding what i am saying find a friend with a VTEC car, diconnect the VTEC solenoid (it's ok if it throws a CEL it's a soft code and will be cleared when you shut the car off), now that it's disconnected try running the car hard through to 8,000rpm and about 6,000rpm you'll feel the car fall on it's face... feels so bad you think it's hurting your car... that's a classic example of how important cam tuning is...

If this doesnt get shut down, LS turbo. With a GSR turbo, compression will have to be dropped and the VTEC (which is most effective under high compression) will become pretty pointless, just making it a turbo engine that will rev to 8500ish rpm. You can do the same with an LS and you can keep the compression. This should probably be in the boosted forum though...

the stock usdm GSR engine have a compression ratio of about 10:1, the LS is about 9.2:1

you do not have to lower the compression of a stock GSR engine to turbo it, it has been done thousands of times with some people putting down very high numbers on stock gsr blocks

as for the vtec, the purpose of vtec it to lock the LMA assembley's so that a higher duration and lift cam profile is utilized, therefore leaving the intake valves open up further, and for a longer period of time. This allows more air to be sucked/forced into the combustion chamber.

so a turbo vehicle would greatly benefit from a vtec head

you made me lol

lower compression = safer
higher compression = more power
so why would you have to lower compression ratio?
and boosting changes your static compression ratio and raises it ALOT
so why would vtec become pointless if your static cr just shot up?
