Ever since I bought my crx it has always had an intermitent starting problem, I have replaced the distributor, main relay, wires, spark plugs, etc. At first it didn't bother me; I would just pop the hood and jump the starter. Now, however, Iam growing tired of this ghetto procedure and would like to find out what is really wrong (its pretty embarresing to have to pray it will start whenever I take my gf for a ride). It happens intermitently. I hear the fuel pump click on everytime, I think it is maybe the key cylinder. how much do those run?
The electrical portion of the ignition switch is what you need to replace if I understand you correctly.
This is easy to replace and should only take an hour to do, no need to mess with the key portion at all, Honda/Acura had quite a few problems with the plastic getting hot and melting the contacts in to t \he plastic just enough to not make contact and either not engage the starter (as I think you are describing) or more commonly they will start then as soon as you release the key from the start postition the engine dies as it no longer makes contact and cuts power to the entire electrical system (Very common on early 90's Acuras)

Iam finally getting around to fixing it. So, you are pretty sure it is the ignition switch? I did a search for ignition switch and it seems that the only problem caused by a faulty ignition switch is that the car will either stop or not stop running. The problem I have is that the car will not start 50-75% of the time.
I had the same problem and it was my ignition switch. It was about $60 from AutoZone for the replacement part. You will need a 6mm socket to remove the electrical component from the back of the key cylinder.
