So these are the turbos, both from an old school 300zx. (1988 i think!)

the next question i have to follow this up, is can i run a FMU at 5.5psi safely? (if the internal wastegate is even set to 5.5?? I just dont know these things!)

Im pretty new to turbo setups, and want to do things right the first time. ive read quite a bit, and have not read much good stuff about FMU's and high PSI. but 5.5 is so low i thought it might be worth asking. my original plan was to use turboedit but at the time i didnt know there were other options in my price range.

i would only want 7psi max anyways. heh i almost forgot, what ratio FMU would anyone here suggest for a D15B2 stock, and the 300zx turbo, and why?

If they have NISSAN cast into the compressor housing, they may be the t25-sized turbos with the t3 turbine inlet. Your picture sucks for tellng what they are though.

Depending on what rate of the FMU, 5.5psi shouldn't be too bad for that motor. You won't gain much if the FMU makes things pig-rich. This also assumes you have an multi-port intake mani on your car. The stock dual-port POS will barely get to to 3psi w/o blowing the injectors out of their sockets, as the FMU would have to raise fuel pressure to 200psi to provide enough fuel.

In otherwords, a mpfi manifold, dsm 450's, and a quick turboedit basemap would be MUCH safer and make more power than an FMU (with or w/o the mpfi mani).

 

thanks for the reply HiProfile. the MPFI swap is sitting at the JY on a core motor, i actually looked at it today and had fun laughing at the busted *** dizzy (i start work at the JY on the 3rd of Jan, so ill buy it after then and get a discount, woot!) i think im gonna go the TE route.... are you sure i will need new injectors with that low boost?

PS, anyone got tips on how to identify the turbo from casting marks/serial numbers/etc?

 

Well its a small turbo on a motor making 100 Bhp with the mpfi, so 180whp max with an intercooler. The 240's will max out around 170whp. DSM's cost all of $50 shipped, so I don't see why not, esp if you go with TE.

FMU's suck. Look into another unit to where you can control your fueling and ignition tables.

 

180whp sounds like a perfect goal to shoot for. its a DD anyways :D
gosh darn willem eprom programmer i was gonna get on ebay hasnt been relisted by the seller... hmm ive sent an email we will soon see. they also said all 29C256 chips are discontinued by the MFC, so anyone who wants those chips better buy em while they can.
