Default SI Cluster into DX?

I plugged in an SI cluster into my 88 DX hatch, and it didn't work (no tach, etc). Anyone know if this is supposed to be a plug and play swap or have info on how to make it work? Thanks

Did all the plugs hook up perfectly? Did you put the VSS cable back in correctly?

The two big plugs fit fine, but there is a small blue female connection on the back of the SI cluster (maybe 4 pin) that my DX doesn't have.

I don't know the year of the SI cluster, but it doesn't fit exactly. Seems to have a bit of a curve at the top....my 88 DX seems to be more straight across the top. If this cluster won't work, can I just tap off the blue wire to get a signal to an individual tach? Thanks

sounds like you have a 90-91 unit. you just have to repin your plugs to those specs if that's the case. really easy to do.

It depends on the year, because theres a connector missing on the 88-89 cluster that you'll find on the 90-91 dx and si, that wont just plug in , so you will have a connector hanging, cant recall which one exactly though. sry.

There are 2 different manufacturers for the instrument clusters and the wiring is different. You need to find one from the same manufacturer if possible and get the plug from the harness if possible. If you can do this then just repin the wires to match and it should work. 88 to 89 are interchangeable as are the 90 to 91. It is possible to swap between these years but you need the metal mounts and the cluster cover to make it work. Also you will have to rewire the hazard light switch as it is in a different place. I did a write up on the wire color codes a few months ago, but not being a computer whiz, I don't know how to find it. Maybe someone here can help find it. Good luck, it took me a lot of research to get a cluster to work in my son's 89 CRX Si!

If you have a good 88-89 SI cluster, I'll trade. Any info on wiring changes needed to make it work on my DX? Email a pic if you have one...cavok800@yahoo.com

I had the same problem when I recently bought a cluster from ebay. The ad stated fits, any 89-91 civic, but when it arrived, it didn't have a female plug for the blue plug. Also, when I plugged everything else in, the tach for one did not work.

This instrument cluster is straight across, while the one from my 91 LX and STD are rounded at the top.

Further research indicates the one that I needed is from an SI, which would have a curved top, while the one from the CRX is straight across. I found it on a search on this forum. Anyway, it appears that it would work if you repinned.

I didn't actually repin mine, I'm going to sell it on ebay and get the right one so I don't have to repin (I'm not so sure everything would work right, i.e. all of the lights).

If you do a search on this forum you will find the write-up on it. Someone on here did an excellent job writing it up with pics and all.

I have 88-89 si cluster with straight top 177,301 miles. I'm in search for 90-91 si with curve top. I will trade if you got one.

My cluster is from a 90 SI, curved top, with 122k. Real nice shape. I'll trade it for your 88/89 straight top Si. Shoot me an email cavok800@yahoo.com
