Default Just Installed 99 Civic Hatch seats into my 00 Coupe

I just got a killer deal. There was an older guy on craigslist who just bought a Civic Hatch through an auction and doesn't know much about them. By looking at his house he appeared very wealthy. The hatch was from UK and I believe it's a Type R. I only saw the outside of it. His wife wanted cloth seats. They are the most interesting seats I have ever came across. Initially he only asked $150 and I contacted the minute his ad was first posted and got to his house within 10 minutes and had the guts to ask him if he'd go any lower and to my good fortune he said $125 so I stuffed them in my Durango and took' em home. I searched all around Honda-Tech to find a definite answer if seats from a Civic Hatch could fit in to my coupe and I coudln't find any efficient information.

By the way, these seats are black and red leather with an embroidered Red Honda Emlebm at the top of each head rest. Front seats are black with a red center and the rears are black leather with red center in the middle. Very very cumfy seats.

Front Seats
The 2 front seats are direct bolt on and bolt straight to my Coupe. I don't remember but I believe there were 4 or 6 bolts per seat, either way, it's very simple just remove all the bolts attaching the sliders. Under the drivers seat, there's a chord that hooks into it, just remove it from it's attaching clip (thingie).

Rear Seats
This was the fun part. The rear seats would not directly fit my car, however, the bottom part fit nicely onto my coupe but only one bolt would hold it down. Since the EX 00 Coupe has 60/40 seats, there's a metal hinge between the two seats, I had to cut it out with a bolt cutter since it was so strong. You have to cut it out if you want to fit hatch seats back there since the hatch seats are 50/50 (meaning they split half way). Unfortunately, I had to keep it a little ghetto since there was no metal hinge to hold the 2 rear seats down in the middle. The Top part of the rear bench (the 50/50 part) could not fit in the back of my coupe so I had to cut a little bit of the middle of each seat for it to fit. I unwrapped the leather from the cushion and took out the cushion. There's a metal frame under the cushion. You have to cut out a chunk from the frame so that it sits perfectly in the back. What I did was measure the space in the rear and measure the distance across the entire top part of the hatch rear bench (both sides together). Then I divided the differences by 2 ( (Hatch distance - Coupe distance) / 2 ). When I got that new distance, that is how much I cut from the middle of each frame (left and right).

After I cut the frame, I wanted it to be strong, so since I already cut each frame in half (from the left and right TOP portions of the rear bench) I reattached each frame together with a metal bar (welded it together and on to the bar). Then I put the cushions back on and wrapped the leather around the cushions. Sorry if my instructions are unclear, I need a camera! I will get pics up soon. I then installed them to the back to complete my backseat swap and they fit perfectly. I could only attach them through the sides. There are 2 hinges that bolt right onto them from the Stock Coupe bench. There's 2 bolts on each side (right and left). Basically the only thing holding the upper part of the backseats are the bolts and hinges on the outer left and right (lower sides). It looks great and had 4 people sitting back there for a 30 minute drive and it was great.

Just letting everyone know that hatcback 96-00 seats can fit into a 99-00 Civic Coupe but there will be modifications to the upper part of the rear bench. Hope this was worth the read.

I will as soon as I can. I don't have a digi cam right now. I mentioned it above. I'm just letting people know that it works because I read some requests for people wanting to know if Civic Hatch seats could fit into a Civic coupe, and my answer is yes with modification. I wasn't posting a "Do it yourself" link. Sorry for the inconvenience.

sounds like they are custom seats. the type R seats are suede and mesh not leather. and they are red or yellow in the front and all black in the rear. pics would be good.
