Heeelllllp! Car wont start
Ok heres the story. My car would not start so i checked the spark plugs turns out the tube had oil, the sparkplugs where half under oil. So today i finished changing the seals everything went fine from what i know and read. I try to start it again but still won't start. It cranks but sounds like a winding sound and it feels like it has no power or voltage like it cranks slow. Tried it a few times nothing, then i noticed that when i just hold it and it keeps cranking it suddenly dies and the starter motor starts clacking, What could it be really need help?
I think my signature link applies;
What did you do with the oil that was in the spark plug wells?
Oil does not conduct electricity, you might need to clean out the spark plug boots with some spray brake cleaner, as well as the spark plug wells.
Have you checked for spark to the plugs?
Can you hear the fuel pump run for a couple seconds when the key is turned on?

the battery does sound like the colpreat. so test it charge it and make sure the conectors are makeing good contact and are on there tight. did you do a full tune up after doing the vavle cove gasket set?

I just took the spark plugs out, i was told it was ok for the oil to go down into the combustion chanber, and i did clean the tubes with a rag inside. I got neew spark plugs, I have not checked for spark i will do that asap, and how would i know the fuel pump is running? Not familiar with the noise, i do here some type of hose or something maybe that is it.

I thought it was the battery too, the conecters are somewhat oxydised don't know if that will mess any connenctivity up, but the batery does look old, i can't get in contact with the previous owner to ask when anything was ever done to the car Tune up, brakes, maintnace, etc. I just changed the lower seals, valve cover seals and gasket and the spark plugs, thats is all i did.

well if it were my car I would probably do a full tune op, and replace the battery. also are you sure a stray strind of that rag didn't get in accedently there? just a thought. It still sounds most likely to be the battery, how you said that it cranked, slower and slower, till it just started clicking. get a volt meter and see what the battery is at. normaly if it is 10 or lower the battery is junk.
My bad, missed the line about the starter clicking;
Yeah for sure check and clean the terminals and be sure the ground is clean.
When you get it cranking good again you might want to pull the spark plugs out and be sure they aren't oil fouled, just for grins and giggles
