What's the hot street/auto-x tire now?
205/50-15, running an EF hatch with the old-style Azenis. It's time to replace mine, and from what I understand the Azenis aren't as price-competitive as they once were.
What has similar bang for the buck now?

the 225 45 15 hankook rs-2 much larger contact patch than the azenis, and very similar price point, i believe 949 racing is one of the few places you can pick em up
The new Azenis have come down in price too. I don't know if they're as cheap as they used to be, but bang-for-the-buck they're still really damn good.

I don't think I could go 225, the wheels will probably rub, and the fenders are already rolled.

Hankooks surprised me with their new RS-2. For a street tire they had some good cornering response. Their R-Compound is pretty good too, although I'd still stick with the hoosiers for my time attacks.

Yes and no. While the tire may be wider, the tread has a larger void area. Also, the RS-2 compound isn't as good as the Azenis RT615.
Everyone who has tested the 225 RS-2 vs the 205 Azenis has went with the Azenis.

They were compared side by side in an old thread, both on 15 x 7 wheels, and they were very close to being the same width (to a 205/50/15 RT-615). The hankooks are smaller in diameter though.

to be honest if i was gonna run street tires at autoX again this year, i would have gone with the 205 azenis as well. with last years car the extra contact patch wouldnt have been worth the trouble of fitting the hankook, altho i do find wet traction to be better with my 205 kooks than a 205 azenis, which i enjoyed for my daily driver tires
Nah the 225 Hankooks are still narrower than the 205 Azenis. Falken tends to make their tires a bit wider for some reason. Someone posts a pic of an Azens in 205/50x15' next to a 225/45x15 Hankook and the Azenis were wider.
I personally didn't like the Hankooks I co-drove with someone last year. Made so much noise and didn't grip for crap compared to the Azenis. But also realize I'm a late braker. I like to dive into a corner really deep with my tires.

hard to beat the new azenis
definitely stay away from the Toyo T1-r. they suck unless you are driving in a monsoon. i loved them in the rain (225/40/14 on Pro Race 1.2's)

225/45/15 RS2 is yards wider then the 205/50 Azenis.

Actually, the 195/50/15 RS2 is wider then the Azenis. The Azenis is a faster race tire, lower void to tread ratio and softer compound. You want race only, go Azenis, you want dual purpose, go RS2.

I just bought a set of four RT-615 Azenis from http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_rt615_t.htm for $72 a piece, ($336 shipped).
I saw the 949 wheel thread about the size difference, my 205/45/16 kooks look pretty wide as well.. . I'm going bigger and better and I think the Azenis 215/45/16 is where I need to be
According to Edge Racings numbers
Falken615 205/50/15 Section Width 8.2 Tread Width 7.6
Falken615 215/45/16 Section Width 8.4 Tread Width 8
Falken615 225/50/16 Section Width 9 Tread Width 8.2

Hankook 215/45/16 Section Width 8.4 Tread Width 7.6

Needless to say, I have the 205/45/16 Hankook and I definetely need something stickier and need to stay above 140UGQT rating for Street Class Time Attacks.. .
On 205kooks I did however pull a 2.14 60ft at 18PSI on them at the track

205/50/15 RT-615 , 7 inches wheels and this can be a really really good and economic track combo. Azenis offers a lot for the money, in my opinion ! I use them in dual purpose, track (amateur) and street...i'm full time student so, they're perfect for me.

Um... those aren't exactly price-competitive.
