hello.. lol you guys are going to love this... anyway.. an ase certified honda mechanic told my girls dad that if the t-belt goes IN AN ACCORD while driving it..it wont bend the valves unlike the civic.. i find this very hard to believe...
please explain the kind of damage a head takes when a t-belt goes on ANY HONDA.. lets hear all the sob stories... im telling my girl at 109k its time to swap it out.. its definately worn..ive seen the belt and have advised her to let me or any damn tech change it out..
thanks

I have a small collection of bent valves from pistons coming up and hitting them while the valve is open.
I had one that was bent in a dog leg shape, and it broke the valve guide because the belt let go while the engine was at high rev entering an on ramp of the interstate hwy.
FWIW The belt doesn't actually snap in 2, the teeth get stripped off.
In this pic you can see the cracking at the base of the teeth.

ASE tests are for the big 3, Ford GM and Dodge.

He's wrong. or at least for any of the F series motors he is. maybe somebody else can vouch for J series motors.
at 109k she is living on borrowed time. at any rate, If you are going to do the work for her, why isn't she getting it done. it's not like you're going to charge her dealer prices I assume.

Not to mention that the maintenance schedule has it being replaced at 105,000 miles or 84 months, whichever comes first. It's past both.

I broke a timing belt at almost idle speed and still bent valves.
Tell him to replace it before he has to replace the whole valvetrain.

I'm assuming by his post that this is his girlfriends dads car, and he probably want's the security of knowing the job will be backed by the dealership. Nothing against the original poster, but most people don't let their daughters boyfriend work on their car. They may not even take his opinion (about said work) into consideration unless they like him. ALOT!!!
As stated, tell him to replace it before it goes... he won't regret it.
