Default C27 valves

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right thread.

1996 Honda Accord LX V6 - C27 engine with 182k miles

Valve train sounds like an angry typewriter at start up, and just a little less angry when it get warm. I put on a new head gasket set (due to stripped head bolt from the factory) and timing belt at 160k.

Dealership quoted me at $500+ due to "5 hours of estimated labor and shop costs." Does this sound right or are they just yanking my chain? I read on a prior post that you can't adjust these valves. If that's so, how does it take 5 hours to "not" adjust the valves? I've already tried using heavier weight oil, any advice?

$500 for valve adjustment, parts and labour on a V6 sounds pretty cheap actually! As long as they are replacing all of your valve cover gaskets that is.

Last time I went into the dealership and asked them for an I4 F22B2 timing belt and valve adjustment. They quoted me $800. That is parts and labour included. I walked out the door and did it myself in a day out in my garage for a few hun in parts and a case of beer.

You probably have to pull the upper plenum to adjust the valves on the rear bank... Thats probably where a bit of the $$$ comes in also.
