Default recurring idle problem

I have a problem with my idle that goes away and comes back. When it happens the car is burning gas very rich. The rpms jump up and down. When i try to gas it or drive it, when the rpms drop it dies. I left it there for a few days and when I started it again it worked fine. I drove it for about a month then yesturday it happend again. Today I started it up and it was fine, took it to a shop and they had no idea what it could be. If anyone has any idea what it could be, please let me know.

take the idol air control valve off and clean it out...its on the back of the intake manifold beside the throttle body...just use some carb cleaner...thats usually the problem with hondas

I have thought about this and I will definately give it a try. but if the idle air control valve is dirty wouldnt it cause the idle to be bad all the time?

i cleaned out the iacv and throttle body. it was good for about a day then tonight i started up and the idle was bouncy again. The car didnt die however and i gassed it a few times and the idle was normal again. What else can this be? its is getting really frustrating...

2 years later the obvious cheacks (IACV) and such and 800 to 1000 worth of new parts still the same idle problems... trust me it been called by many the honda disease... my car runs great but it just does not idle, maybe when i can afford an engine swap it will solve the problem!
