Default lookin to make the switch over to honda..

ive been into volkswagens for about 2 years..which is great in all but recently i crashed my 2nd gen. gti . the only other car ive ever considered would be some type of swapped eg or ek so i figured i'd start lookin around. basically, i need reliability cause thats what any vw lacks. a couple of my friends have B16 swapped bubbles and one has an H22. i just wanna know everything there is to know, pretty much. whats there to look out for? positives? negatives?

lookin for a positive reaction..

OK ill be the first to help out if you want reliable pretty much just going to swap stock motor for mhe a stronger stock motor lol.

all types of swaps you can do its what you are really looking to get out of the car. a B16 swap is very common in these cars it is also relatively on the cheaper side it will give some good power for a beginner. if your looking for a little bit more power you could always go GSR swap or Type R maybe even an h22 minor mods to an H bommer Will get it to a 13 no prob. buddy has his H with 2 layer flat valves blox stage 1 cams and he runs in the 13's all day. but once you start to get into things like that you loose reliability.theres allso another swap you could do to make some power an LS on boost i have seen alot of stock LS take 300whp all day and last for over a year. and remember what ever you do its going to need some type of tune so you dont blow your **** up Or you could stick with the D's and boost a D my other buddy has a boosted D on 10 lbs i'm not really into turbos so idk the size of the turbo but hes been runing that for 2 years on stock hes just now getting ready to build his D up.

also what body style you choose is up to you i have an EG i really dislike the EK body style

im running an ls vtec its been great to me. i have a b16 tranny on there (which has shorter grears ratio) i beat on it pretty hard though, but like eg_owns you said, you pretty much gotta tune.

i had a b20 vtec. it was soooo nice but like a dumbass i didnt tune it and after i broke it in i beat the **** out of it...well ifucked it up pretty bad. like 2500 bucks of damage (on a motor i only paid 3500 for...semi built with tranny and installed)...so i dumped that motor and got an ls for free (the shop just traded me the fucked up b20 for an ls black with ITR pistons and but my b16 head back on it).

i dynoed my ls vtec the day it was broken in and i made 200 hp all motor. i tuned with chrome which i really like. good stuff. ^_^ personally id stick with ANY b series (b16, GSR ls (ls vtec) or b20 (b20 vtec). i dont really like the H series. and K series is really expensive.

i would really say that you should get an lsvtec or a GSR (both are 1.8l dohc vtec motors) and i like the b16 tranny. though you may opt for better gas mileage with a gsr tranny (just got get an ls.....horribly long *** gears).

well thats what i have to offer. hope it helped ^_^ and for the record 200hp in a hatch pwns, not sure what a 2nd get GTI looks like but i've taken out the newest GTIs with my lsvtec (though...they're not called DTIs anymore are they?)

either way. welcome to the world of honda, and just be carefull what you buy off of ebay. im here to help any time.

Not to sound like an *******..but how much about hondas do you know? I ask this because I go on volkswagen sites to possibly learn about making one fast, and I'm just flabbergasted by all the motors and not knowing what cars they come from haha.

It seems that you know a little bit about honda motors..so I guess I don't have to explain where they come from and etc..

Best bang for the buck IMO is a gsr swap. They are getting cheaper nowadays, and a strong swap in a light chassis such as a cx hatch, can get you into the 13's with intake, header, exhaust and still be reliable. Then from there you can always go with an allmotor build or turbo after that.

not THAT little. my neighbors had his fair share and ive always been around to help him out so i learned a bit.ive always liked hondas and damn near anything jdm but once you fall into vw you kinda forget about liking anything else. that and you get railed on by the whole vw "scene" for liking anything else.

and yea, i know how fast some of the swap's are. my buddy has a 100% stock h22 swap out of a BB6 prelude, the only mod is a crappy intake and a skunk-2 ecu. its a real fast car, in the low 13's..

i think my favorite body is the EK, eg's are awsome too but after seeing this a long time ago i was sold..

First thing you're gonna want to do is get 4 clubs, 2 autolocks, 5 kill switches, and an alarm since you're in NJ
