Default JRSC install log

Hey Guys, Thought I would post up a thread about me installing a JRSC in my 91 hatch.

I am NOT a guy who is naturally good at wrenching. I enjoy doing installs and working on my car myself, but any time I have ever done anything to my car, I usually have one of my friends there who knows a heck of a lot more than I do to bail me out when I screw up. After moving from BC to Cali though, no one here to help me left, so I'm trying this one on my own. If I really mess it up, Ill have to have it towed to the local shop to correct my screw up. Good times! Anyway, on with the fun!

Installing a stock BRAND NEW JRSC on a D16A6 Civic. Car has a rebuilt motor from the ground up. Its about 1.5 years old at this point. Going for just a stock install using the JR Fuel hacks (I know, its not ideal but should suffice for the low stock boost on the kit. I will be upgrading probably to turbo edit later).

Worked on it for about 1.5 hours today, didn't get a lot done. Removed the intake, throttle body, and labled all the hoses that have been removed. Got most things ready to be taken off and ready to remove the fuel rail and the manifold.

Couple of pics follow, Ill update as I go along, hopefully this will help out some of the other non mechanically inclined guys out there like me as I go along (if I keep up the postings!).

Pictures of the removed intake and throttle body, along with the labeling of all the hoses that have been disconnected.

If anyone is in fresno with experience and wants to help out, let me know!

Hey guys, thanks for the pointers and the threads to look at.

I dont think it will be too hard, but not having anyone to help can make it a challenge.

Ill check those two threads out, thanks 1 Fly SI. Dan, I miss BC more than you can imagine. Vancouver is the place to be. Anyway as far as belt problems, the more I have seen on that the more it seems to be becouse of inproperly tightend pullys. But we will see when its finished!

Thanks again guys Ill update when I do more!

No big progress today, but only worked on it for an hour so.

Almost realy to pull the manifold. I am running into some issues with the fuel rail. I cant unhook the rail from the fuel filter, bolts are on too tight, and no air here, hand tools only baby!

So I am going to pull the manifold with the fuel rail still there, just everything unhooked. I dont see it being too much of an issue, but we will see.

Hopefully i will get some good time in tommorow (love having a week off work!), but also have to mount my new TSWs/Kumho package to my Legend.

Ill update tommorow with pics of the progress!

i dont know if this is what your talking about, but just use a 15/16 wrench and take this off. make sure you dont drop the washer, also make sure you take your fuel cap off.

hopefully that will help. good luck

Thats what I was looking to do, but to be honest I couldnt find a properly sized wrench. I might head down to Autozone and pick one up tommorow. Otherwise I am not sure I see the harm in leaving it on, but we will see.

Ill get some shots of the progress tommorow and hopefully I get some good time in!

Streetwerkz, I have actualy read both those threads. I have had this supercharger sitting in my garage for about 6 months now, along with a whole bunch of MSD parts, but I finally had a week off work so I am trying to get this put in myself.

Its not the taking the parts off that is the hard part, but i am concerned about putting them back on!

Ill have to try the adjustable wrenches, I just generally dont like using them, too sloppy.

Anyway guys, thats for the help again, More pics to come today hopefully!

I got the maifold fully removed today, but now I am running into some issues.

The instalation notes seem to call for a new fuel pressure regulator, but none was included with the kit (even though this is a brand new kit). It calls for an adapter, which the kit does come with, but Im not totally clear on where to install it. Anyone who has done this before care to enlighten me?

Didnt get a long time to look at it today, really only about an hour or so, so hopefully with some reading it will become more clear when i work on it tommorow. I have to go in again to get my tires mounted on my new wheels for my legend, and I am mounting up new front tires on my wagon, but hopefully I will get to work on it all afternoon. Heres a pic with no manifold!

You use your OEM FPR. It is just relocated to the end of the fuel rail. There is also a POS Fuel Managment Unit. The big aluminum thingy dingy it ties inline with your FPR and increase fuel pressure with every pound of boost.

DaveB, The man Im coming to about Turbo edit after I get this thing running again!

So Im not sure I understand, do the instructions suck that badly? I can see that I would relocate the unit I have to the end of the rail using the adapter, correct? However the pictured unit dosent really look like what I have. I just re tap and plug off the old spot for the FPR?

I guess this sounds correct, the instruction pictures are very misleading then......

exactly..... i'll take a picture of what the adapter looks like tonight if i still have it floating around in my garage.

the reason why you need it is because the stock obd-0 fuel rail places the FPR in the middle, right of the fuel rail.

i dont like that hoakie lookin' adapter, so i always use an EG fuel rail. plus the EG fuel rail looks a lot cleaner than the crx/civic rail.

Can you slap an Aeromotive 1:1 FPR on there and not have to worry about all that? And then get turboedit and tune from there?

Sounds like it came with an FMU of sorts, I'd rather not use that.

Tippy man

I am sure you can, but I want to install this kit first as is from JR, then from there start building up on it. I realize the fuel Managment is definetly not the best setup out there, and really is pretty old school, however it should work without issue for the stock boost levels I will be running first.

Once everything is installed and running proeprly, then I will install all the MSD parts, and after that start looking at upping the boost. At that time I will be looking into Turbo Edit!

Thanks again for the help guys, we will see how it goes tommorow. Hopefully I can get more than just an hour or so in!

Alright guys, I got through my first issue of the "parts not included". The install notes show two fuel pressure regulators, however one is just upsidedown. I didnt realize all I I needed to do was install mine upside down. Yeah Im an idiot, what can you do.

So here are the pics of how I have it setup now. If anyone can confirm that this is correct, it would be great.

Allright guys, so here the next issue. The install notes say to tap the old FPR location and install a plug. Is this really nessasary? As far as I can see that part of the rail would now not have anything flowing through it, which is why the adapter is setup the way it is. Is this correct or not? Pictured below is what I am talking about.
