Default STALLING PROBLEMS!!!!

So this problem just started on Christmas Eve, I'm down shifting going around a corner and out of no where the car just shuts off, no power steering, no power brakes, no nothing, not even any idiot lights come on the car just stops running. So no big deal I just start up the car and drive with no problems not thinking anything of it. So yesterday it does the same thing again, no idiot lights come on nothin it just stops, only this time I almost run into a stonewall because I lost my power brakes. I checked the car over yesterday after that happened and I couldnt find anything wrong. Now it did it again to me today; alls I can say is its been really wet here lately but I didnt want to just blame it on the weather....it always happens when I'm down shifting going around corners or turning from a stop.....maybe the RPMs are getting to low and the car just dies, I dont know. I hav e a AEM CAI on it and an HFP exhaust but those have been on for a little while now so I'm thinking that they aren't the problem. From what I can tell about the car if the RPMs go under 500 then the car will die so mayeb the RPMs are dropping but the car isn't bucking or anything, the only way that I can tell that it shuts off is because my power steering is gone...and the car is always warmed up when this happens so its not because the car is cold....but it has been very rainy/wet. Please help

If anyone else is having this problem or knows what might be causing it please let me know.

Thanks

Have you driven thru any large/deep puddles latley?

Over-oiled your intake filter?

Thats what i was thinking but its weird its like the car just desides to shut off and theres no reason why.....one min its running fine and the the next it shuts off, with no warning or sputtering or anything.

when u hooked it back up did you let it idle for 10-15 minutes with NO a/c or ANYTHING on ?

sounds like your idles screwy which makes u stall when u slow down
the ECU can't compensate for the flow ( i think)

LOL, Do you let your RPM's drop below 500 in gear? Cause if so that might be your problem, or I could have misinterpreted what you said? Besides 500 on almost any car is below idle speed for an engine so that may be why its cutting out. Just a thought.

he mentioned he downshifted through the turn so if anything the RPMs would go up.

i'd have to agree with you mike. its happened to me and my friend when we installed a high flow intake on his mk4 GTi. without idleing after the install. it was boosting like crazy on the freeway but as soon as i got off and turned, the engine died. even if the car was in neutral it would die.

OP, cruise at say 35 then put it in neutral. chances are your going to stall and its going to be the same situation as the GTi.

although i dont know how to fix this problem. what i would do is put stock back on and let it run for a while. then re-try the aem intake.

thats what i would do however, this is HT and people have better ideas

I'm not really understanding this, but like the others said... under 500 is likely for a stall if you're in gear.

its really frustrating because i spend 250 and thought i was getting some quality.. guess not.

call AEM and bitch, maybe if enough of us complain we can get our money back or atleast get em to fix it

Yep. I never really liked AEM intake. So I waited for the Injen to come out w/ their cold air.

Hey guys, not saying this is the problem or the solution, but maybe check to see if the intake is entirely connected at all points. I know you're going to say to yourselves that it can't be the issue, but it very well may.

Happened to me about a week ago, but not because of water, or anything like that, I've ran into many a puddles and no issues yet.

My mechanic accidentally lost a hose clamp and the intake came apart partially. It kept dying at low rpm's, and sometimes while turning. And died randomly... not saying it's the answer or the problem, but maybe check it out?

Agreed. Very important to follow the instructions and double check everything is in place and secure. It still surprises me how many people do not disconnect their battery and then have issues. This is turning into the most common problem people are having.

My car did that same thing when I first got my AEM CAI. It was raining a whole lot and the car stalled out 2-3 times when I was driving. No puddles or anything just a lot of rain on the road.. So I bought a Hydroshield and have not had any problems at all since. Might not be your be your problem but it could be.

yes. I believe it was the medium one but the guys at ptuning will help you to make sure you get the right size. I now for sure it's not the small one though cause i ordered that size first and it didn't fit so it's just sitting in my closet now.
