1. If Honda replaces the tranny in a TL, is it the newer design, or is it the same transmission that's almost guaranteed to crap out?

2. Do TL's have to run on premium fuel, like the RL's?

 

1. Supposidly the repalcements after Feb '05 are the fixed units
2. Yes you have to use 91 or higher octane

i work for acura and watch these trannys come in and out all day. we "claim" the problem is fixed, but i see mor people comeing back every day with this problem,m after the swap. but there is a new and fixed solution for the issue out nowso head down and ask about it. and in ALL acura cars u should run 91 or higher. except the rsx or integras.

I like the TL, but I don't think I'm willing to put up with that kinda crap. If they just offered a manual for that generation of TL's, I'd have no problems.

GO check this site out......acura-tl.com according to the members over there the newer repalcements seem to be holding up fairly well. There is a TSB that indicates that it a certain part of the trans was damaged during shipment, do not install the unit (some peice breaks off of the VSS and falls into the trans).........

If the transmission goes a second time, what are the chances that Honda will do a goodwill repair on it?

 

I believe when they give you a new tranny that they're 3yr/36k warranty. NOT entirely sure though.
