x2 minus the pressurewash. Engine brite works real well (make sure you wash the underside of the hood and let dry while it is still up or it will dirty the bay again)

Easy way!
Use brake parts cleaner to get rid of the extra grime etc., use engine degreaser and wash with high power water and towel.
Finish with tire shine to make next clean up easier.

When i got my car the engine bay was filthy, with baked in dirt as i'd say it had never ever been cleaned. I used STP tire foam, sprayed it everywhere and let it settle, then got a coarse brush and clean in around everything. Then sprayed some more tire foam about and wiped it all down with a damp cloth. Came up pretty good.
It came out pretty damn good. Did you just shoot it around anywhere? Or you actually covered things up too?
Dude, your header covers are extremely dirty LOL! That's all I noticed, it went from grey to pitch black.

I cleaned engine bays alll through my high school days.
1. on a COOL/COLD engine (cool enough you can put your hand on the valve cover and block and leave it there) spray EVERYTHING down with simple green. Get the hood as well. I always deluted simple green. One bottle from the store made 2 bottles, and it worked the exact same, especially when using a power washer.
2. let the simple green sit for a few min.
3. spray the hell out of it with a powerwasher. I never covered up anything, I would just not hit certain things directly, fuse box, and the connecting points of the wire harness. Just dont hit that directly. Make sure you spray it until you see no more bubbles or any signs of soap. Its going to take quite a while...and soap will sit everywhere. Make sure that you spray everywhere. Start at the hood....(water runs down...dee de dee)
5. if you have the capabilities, take your blower and stick it in a airhose and blow dry everything that way. if not, towel it dry.
6. if you want your hoses and such to be shiny, tire gloss will do the trick.
Hope this helps someone

nope. done it many many many times. out of all of the times I have done it, only had a problem once. a little water got down in the sparkplugs...only problem I ever had, and just that one time. I pulled them out, dried em off...stuck em back in, took a sec to fire it up...ran a little rough and no problems since.
I dont even wanna begin to think about how many engine bays ive detailed.

agreed. just dont certain things directly, such as fuse box, air filter, and harness connections, etc. For example, if is pouring rain, stuff is designed to get wet, so just keep that in mind
