Default distributor timing problem

I just built my B16 with high compression pistons, valve terrain, and all that good stuff, no camshafts yet. I beleive my compression ratio is 12.8 to 1. Can i leave my distributor timing to where it is stock or should i play with it? Does it matter that i have high compression? Im looking to find a place around my area where they tune but until then ive been moving it to where it feels good.

Retard it until you get it tuned. Camshafts will play a big part in compression. Octane is another factor you need to take into consideration too.
