Colored Stamps on JDM Heads- b16 or ITR?
On JDM motors..
Mostly b16 or JDM ITR Heads
there are colored stamps.. White and green i heard.
Is this rite.. if u have a Green stamp on a B16/ITR head.. it means JDM ITR head rite? and the WHITE stamp color means regular b16?
Also.. How do u tell how old or what year your Head is?..

never heard of this. I know that as all of the heads were going down the assembly line the extra nice looking ones were given a little paint mark to signify that that particular head would be used for a type r and to send it out for the minor port/bowl work it would receive. (did not witness this, but have heard it from a reputible source)
that mark is washed away before the motor hits the street. ITR valvesprings have a slight hue to them as well, cant remember what colour they are, but i think blue or green (or both)

I have a So Called SIR2 obd1 b16a Motor 168HP blah blah.. On my Head it Has a Green Stamp.. It does Look like the head on it now.. was Put on Later, cause i can see marks and residue from the Old head that was on It
What else can I check for to see if my Head on my b16a Motor is a ITR head?..
It there A way i can tell what generation my head is? is there a Code of somesort on the Head i can Check?
Ive also Noticed.. In import magazines.. Guys with JDM b18C ITR swaps.. some of them have the GREEN stamp on the Upper Left hand corner of the HEAD

i have an sirII as well, where is your green mark on the head?
I definatly know that cylinder heads in the honda factorys back in the day did get selected out if they had minimal casting flaws and stuff like that. and they did get marked with a little dab of paint.
I'm not saying you have an itr head on your car, but you might. look at the cams... if they have the two rings on the dizzy end of the intake cam then its an itr cam, and even more likely the itr head.
There are markings on the head cast itself that say the year it was cast. it is on the intake side of my pr4 head and not sure where on the pr3 thats in my car right now. it is a group of circles that have a raised line in the middle of them, a number will be on each side of the circle on the two sides of that line that splits it. it may look like this (9|3) that would be a 93 head, so if your head is not from 96 or up, its highly unlikely that its an itr head, as they wouldn't have been stockpiling type r head castings for a whole year before starting production on a limited production vehicle.
hope this helps.

the first ones, the ones on the left (when you're looking at it)
I realize now that pr3 casting date stamps are on the exhaust side of the head, and easier to see. the stamp you want is the one that is in a group of 4 and it should be the one on the left.
there is also a chance that your head was preselected for ITR machining, then they changed their mind, meaning you have the paint mark, but none of the actual work, in which case, you have a VERY pretty head, with minor casting flaws, and likely a happy (and quick) b16a.
edit: i'm gunna walk outside and read my date stamp.
ok, i have 3 heads, an sirII pr3 (dated 1993), an sirI pr3 (dated 1989) and finally, a pr4 (dated 1992)

u know those factory freak motors.. that are more powerful then normal engines..
Like hearing gsr or b16 motors that are stronger then the rest.. I bet they are the good ones with green marks on them.. I had a b16 sir2 motor in a DA and that car was fast as expletive, I had Scotty at B series in san marcos drive it.. and he said it was strong and as fast as a LS/VTEC motor..
I believed him, cause i ran it a couple times and my brother ran it and it would smoke alot of cars..
the SIR2 motor in my ej8 now is pretty strong, i notice the VTEC engagement is stronger.. and louder.. then again i am running a 98 USDM ITR ecu in it
Factory Freaks
LOL
my casting says pr3-3, does that mean 3rd generation b16 motor?
isnt ITR pr3-4?.. I dunno
pr4- isnt that LS?

i have a factory freak b16a, well had. it used its CAI as a straw one day.

with just a cai and some crush bent exhaust.
the weird thing is, it made over 100 foot pounds from 4,825 (100.3) all the friggin way up to 7,913 (100.1)
and over 105 from 5,500 to 7,700
this was on a superflow dyno, not a dynapack or anything
i raced another ef with a b16 one day, (he caught me off guard) so i mashed it at like 4,000 rpms and hung at his door til about 6,500 then i started to walk away. the guy asked me if i had a b18cR swap
and yes, i have an ls head laying around. its for sale in fact.
