Tough Descision: Pay up or get a new one?
I recently bought a 5th gen 4dr EX ($4250) with 100k miles, new paint, new tires and had to replace tranny and clutch ($1k). A week later got cut off by someone who put on their brakes and I rear ended them. 4k in damage and my insurance is sending me a check for 3500. Should I bite the bullet and pay up....or should i take the check plus $1k my friend is offering me for the wrecked car and try and find a new one.

pics of the damage would help. 4k could be just cosmetic stuff or you could have damage to the front structural members. 100k is just getting broken in, and it's got a new tranny/clutch in it. I'd lean towards keeping it depending on how bad the front end is assed up.
i cant really get to the car right now to get pics but basically the bumper of the car i hit was raised so it barely cracked my bumper and bent in the hood and broke the radiator (was leaking brown fluid) there are other various leaks and the battery looks dented (the list goes on). however it still does drive and no matter what additional mechanical damage we find....my insurance re appraises the new damage and covers it so thats not a problem.
my real question was is there a better generation or model than what i have that i should look for or is mine worth fixing and keeping.

ok last things first. If the radiator was leaking brown fluid I'd be concerned about that. radiator fluid is green. radiator fluid turns brown for 2 reasons: 1) it's nasty old and the radiator is corroded, or 2) you've got a bad headgasket, in which case it will look like a chocolate milkshake. If it's #2, drop the car like it's hot.
whether you keep it or not depend on what you want. If you want cheap reliable transportation, you should fix it, assuming it's not going to cost a fortune to fix it. the 5th gen is a great car. all cars have little problems. buying a new, or new to you, car isn't going to change that fact.
Will your insurance re-appraise the damage? the way I understand the process is that if they "total" the car, they write you a check for the value of the car, then you buy it back from them. thats it. they won't pay one cent for fixing it. I've never totaled a car, so I could be way off base here - correct me if I'm wrong people.

How long were you going to keep it for? It will be hard to resell it with high mileage (in a few years) AND serious accident.
Accord is not rare car, you can find another one or something better as others pointed out..
I say dont bother fixing it and sell!
My .02 cents

For me, I would take the money and part it out too. Like, I could use some interior things and other things too.
But if you love the car, and love it from beginning, repair it... Or take the money, get a $900 CRX and put in a B engine with turbo and own everyone.
Anyways PM me if you are gonna part it... i might buy a few things off of it.
BTW the brow fluid is from the tranny(i think) I changed my radiator once and took out the auto tranny hose and all this brown poop came out

thanks for all the help. yeah i have USAA so if the mechanics find any other damage they just call my insurance and get the money from them to do the repair: i wont pay any more than 500(my detuctable) to fix it. im thinkin maybe i should just part it out or sell it but its gonna be hard to becuase just 2 weeks ago i put in a new clutch and tranny with 5k miles on it pulled from a 97 stickshift.
its not totalled because for some reason it was valued at 6k even though i only paid 4k.

Hey how much for the rim, i might be interested. =P Sorry for your lost. It sucks seeing a Honda in a wreck. THE HUMANITY!
If you like the car it would be worth fixing. You said that you changed the tranny in it. If you did that I'm sure you could do most of the work yourself. Painting would be the hardest part. I bought a car wrecked similar to the first picture posted for $800. I should have it fixed to better than stock condition for under $2500 including purchase price. That includes all new frontend stuff, hook, windsheild, airbags, and all new suspension(not because of the accident) So minus the cost of the vehicle i will have less than 2 grand invested.
After seeing the pics I'd definitely sell it.

You can pull parts off, they just give you a little less. I crashed a S-10 once. They were only gonna give me an extra $10 for the cd player if I left it in the truck. it was an eclipse deck so they docked me $10 on a check and I sent it in for work covered by my warranty and it was fixed like brand new.
