Default Insight drivetrain in an EF?

I have searched a few times and didnt come up with what I was looking for. Has any one taken the fuel efficient setup from the Insight and put it into an EF? If anyone has info, please elaborate. I started a new job, but its over 30 miles away. It pays very well, so Im not worried too much about cost. I know next to nothing about the Insight. What would be involed in the swap? Im looking for a mostly stock setup nothing fancy. I could just get another car but I love my EF's and I think I would be cool to have a reverse hybrid. I would like to keep the EF a 5 speed and want the car to be a green as possible.

Good idea, but can you imagine the headache involved in the wiring for the battery pack and so on? The brake rotor recharge system? Holy hell man.......Go for it though, that would be cool to see.

Why not just find an HF in good condition? Thats damn near the same mileage.

Think green. The cleanest most, fuel efficient EF on the planet, some insights can get up to an astonishing 75+ mpg! I know nada about wiring, I can ask Rywire to do the wiring, Im sure that's a challenge that he wouldn't mind taking on. Remember anything is possible!

Anything IS possible, for the right price. Do you have ANY idea how much wiring would be invovled? Dude.

You can get an Insight for like 10 grand. This project would probably run you the same price and will never run right.
Get an HF or an insight.

I don't think Rywire will take on this project.
Unless the price is right of course.

If you want to build an efficient crx, look into swaping a vtec-e or the 3 stage vtec.

Find a CRX HF or a Civic VX setup and then proceed to make the chassis as light as physically possible and the drive train as efficient as God.

Everything is different. I have completely torn apart two insights. You cannot just create the wiring from scratch because of the size of the power cables and different connectors. The only way that it can work is to take a complete insight and pull every wire from it and swap it to the EF. Plus you have to used a custom mount kit similar to the K-serise to fit the motor in the car....Not practical. Buy a mo-ped if you want cheap gas mileage

It would be an interesting and unique swap but the amount of fabrication to make it work would be mind blowing.

The Insight uses an aluminum body (panels or whole body, I forget) to offset the weight of the batteries.

I wonder what kind of mileage you could get if you used the light, aerodynamic Insight body with an HF engine?

My dad had a 1st gen HF, on long trips it would get 55-60mpg. It could only go 75mph tops and it had to be in 3rd. It was carburated.

My 2nd gen HF only got 40-45mpg, but it could go faster than 75mph.

You know that for the price of this swap you could probably have 5 years worth of gas money lol. Thought this pic was relevant, insight x civic:

Point being, i dont think it would be worth it.

Could you imagine driving that thing?!!

The insight engine is a 1 liter vtec-e. Many gassavers.org users have swapped in d15z1's (also vtec-e, but from the 92-95 eg vx) into their efs. Mated to an hf 5spd tranny (like mine ) these cars are capable of 70mpg+ as can be seen in the gaslogs of several users. Bunger has the highest mpg with his crx d15z1/hf.

Check out these gaslogs:

stock vx: http://www.gassavers.org/garage/viewgaslog/104

crx w/ d15z1/hf tranny: http://www.gassavers.org/garage/viewgaslog/33

edit: the car pictured in the above post belongs to basjoos, a gassavers.org user. He averages about 70 mpg and it is a cx.

You are better off just to buy an insight. That way you could cruise in the carpool lane alone.

in calif you can ride in the carpool lane with a hybrid, and i think you can also park in metered areas without paying. in the rest of the country i dont think this applies. also, '06 was the last year of the insight, so you'd have to get a used one and hope all its gadgets don't break on you.
