Default Removing exhaust manifold cover

I decided I wanna remove my exhaust manifold cover, and I got one bolt off, and the other one is SOOO hard, it seems to get tighter as I loosten it. Will I crack my block if I try too hard?

Any suggestions on how to get that screw off?

Thanx in advanced.

Won't crack your block, but it might fracture your exhaust manifold. You could try a penetrating oil. It would help lubricate the threads a bit.

Make sure you have the right size socket and use a long breaker bar. It will come off....one way or another, haha. It might break off in there if it's rusty enough.

Use quick, hard pushes on the breaker bar to help minimize the chances of breaking the bolt...or if you have access to an impact wrench try that to back em out.

Spray some WD-40 or sumthin, that'll take care of the rust and it should come off easily. Just watch out for fire.

finally someone with good advice, give it a quick jerk. don't crank it slowly with a long **** breaker bar or the thread will snap/stripped

liquid wrench bolt, let it sit, runs the car and try it while everything is hot

I spun the head off of two of them on my old cd5. They broke off like they were made of cheese.

After lubing with Blaster, and tapping on the bolt head to "jar" the oil into the threads, I would work it first one way just a little bit (like cutting new threads on a pipe), then back, until I could get one full turn, then back it on out. I haven't had great luck with sudden impacts on rusted-in bolts.

For reassembly, I get generous with "never-sieze" on some brand new STAINLESS
replacement bolts.-Bob
