Seems fair enough of a trade.....it all depends on how you look at things.

You should go take it for a test drive. From what I've read LS/VTEC engines are crap shoots. You never know how well the engine was built.

that is a very uneducated assumption

it sounds like a stock LS bottom end with a vtec head, so hopefully it hasnt been reved past 7500 too many times

but I would make him provide the smog for the car, if he cant then do not trade for it unless you have a hook-up

other than that it seems like a pretty fair trade

go for it. it looks like a good trade but you should drive it before and see how the engine runs. ls/vtec is iffy sometimes.

You can't smog an ls/vtec. The law requires you to have the head that the engine came with. Engine swaps are legal, as long as certain restrictions are followed, but a head swap will never legally pass. Now, the mechanic could very well not see it, but its still illegal.

I am very well aware of this being that I am currectly taking calsses to get my smog license

Legally he must smog the car before the sale, no if's, and's or but's unless the vehicle is sold for off road use only

so I would make him smog the vehicle so you do not have to worry about it for 2 years

why wouldn't it be revved past 7500? i'm sure it was revved to 8000 plenty of times. people don't put on a vtec head just to shift at 3k rpm all day.

i say that's a bad trade. the body of the civic looks beat. it has an ls/vtec, you don't know how it was built or how badly abused. i'd pass on this one.

Any motor can be iffy. I know people with ford escorts that have ragged the **** out of them. And boosted cars that never rev past 3500.
