Are there back seats in a CRX?
I might be picking up a CRX as a second daily and was wondering if there is a back seat, and if so, can a baby seat fit back there? I have a sedan already so if both of my questions are answered with "no" that's fine.
Well, that sucks. I guess I'm going to have to get the JDM seats then. I never really seen a CRX up close enough to notice it had no rear seats. I used the search, but only got a few topics when I searched "crx baby" or "crx child". In both recent and archive. eh.
if you love your children dont put them in a CRX
it is a great and fun car, but not built to protect from the crazy SUV's
it will fold up like a beer can
when you see the jdm rears you will understand that the CRX was never meant to have anything other than a spare and a suitcase in the back
or some would say it was meant to have a fuelcell and a NO2 tank in the rear
ymmv
and as already stated
use the search

See now this is a good response, somebody giving actual info instead of "search". Bravo.

Why is this exactly? Any passenger car with a lightweight chassis will crumple if it is hit by a large SUV. I saw a four door Accord just recently where the whole passenger side was pushed in because it got t-boned by an Explorer. If you drive safely you stand the same chance of getting where you need to go in one piece in a 2 door hatch or a sedan. If a soccer mom on a cell phone sails through a red light and broadsides you, the only thing saving you is a NHRA roll cage (something that even uber-safe family cars don't come equipped with).
Do what you feel comfortable with.

Yea but your regular passenger car isnt typically as small as the CRX is either... Plus the crumple points Honda designed into the chassis were desgined to protect the driver and a passenger while the rest of the car essentially crumples around them... Not the back 'shelf'... I dont even have any kids, but I would NEVER put one back there if I did!

My previous 90 Si had that setup.
It wasn't for the "rear seat", it was to secure a child seat in the front passenger's seat. They pretty much bolted an old-fashioned lap-belt to the floor just behind the front seat. I took the belts out right after I got the car; I may have them somewhere in my stash...
One minor detail about "rear seats" in a CRX: How do you put them in? Are you gonna weld in all of the appropriate mounts to get everything nice and solid in there?
If you want a CRX with a back seat, just buy one. They're all over the place--they're called "Civic Hatchbacks".
