Default Cheapest remote start for 06 Accord

The car already has passive security and power everything. The ONLY thing I'm looking to put in is a remote starter.

I'm a Ford mechanic and I've put remote starts in before so DIY is my preference. Circuit City had a Hornet model for $130, but THEY have to do the install... I just don't have 4-5 hours to leave my **** there. Anyway, I found a cheap $60 unit at PepBoys, but then I need a $20 bypass module, and a $110 key, (after programming). That puts me at almost $200 and I'm convinced that there is a cheaper way.

I'm assuming that Honda's key transponders use a different bitrate than Ford's, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. If there is a way that I could program the key myself, that would cut out $90.

Any input would be appreciated.

Unless you have access to a Honda programmer, you cannot do it yourself.

You can, however, get away with a standard transponder key from your local locksmith. They're generally around $60-80... But why do that when you can just use your valet key? I'm assuming that you've got your main key with your keyless entry/trunk buttons on it, but the car didn't come with a gray or black headed valet key? Use that.

Please PLEASE do not purchase a $60 starter and $20 bypass module... You of all people (working on Fords all day) should know what happens when you skimp out on quality... I'd hate to see that nice '06 Accord burn to the ground as a result of some cheap POS Bulldog brand starter...

Why don't you try this? Buy the Hornet from Circuit City and tell them that you'll call them later to set up the installation appointment, then just install it yourself... Or, if they require an appt at time of purchase, just make it and then don't go...

What are they going to do? Call you and tell you that you have to return the starter because you missed your appointment? I think not...

Good lord, I completely forgot about the other keys. It's actually my girl's car & this is a Christmas present but I remember her putting her extra keys in a drawer in the kitchen. Thanks for your help.

also remember you have to access the OEM alarm disarm...which is located
at the drivers door module.

If you use the 556HW you shouldn't need to lose a key

I can't stress the importance of using a good remote unit. I installed a flea-bay unit. I protested on doing it and was giving him reasons on not doing it. Customer was a hard head and said I'll give you a extra 100 if I just did it and stop explaining the reason. So I agreed and told him I would only warrentty the labor and went about installing it. This is on a 05 accord. Cars completed three hours later. I tested it out. First it did not want to start. No ignition, after the third try it worked. So I give him his car and told him if he had any problems give me a call anytime. 3:40 in the morning I get a phone call. Help me, my car starter is just turning over and will not stop and I can't get it to stop. I do what ever to get you over here. I'm in cerritos and the customer was in lakewood. About 15-20 min away. So I like f it I come over to look, I get there the starter motor had cracked from the heat. The battery cables were melted. The starter signal wire was melted inturn melted the other wires in the motor harness. So long story short I was like told you so. But I could not say it. After looking at his face. I get the car towed to the dealership. labor and parts to fix 2400. New dei remote start 300. Please don't end up like him
