alright i know it sounds ridiculous
one of my buddies is at uti right now and went through the transmission rebuilding part of it. he says that you can put a sixth gear on a transmission by just putting it on the auxilouly shaft of the transmission. i just wanted to know if anyone else has heard of this or even done it, i dont know if its as easy as slapping a gear on a shaft. i know it sounds ridiculous, so i dont need to be told over and over again how stupid it sounds.
well what would you do as to reverse? it would have to be moved too, right? i would say no as to just putting in another gear. the aux shaft is ment for 5 gears so you would probably have to lengthen it or get one out of a similiar tranny (RSX?)
Sorry, not on an integra....theres no extra room in the tranny for an extra gear. I mean, there are only 2 shafts (plus the reverse, but thats not really a shaft) and they are filled. Im sure it could be done, but its not going to be easy, basically you'll need your own personal machine shop or to pay somebody $14k.

Sometimes it seems their classes are made up by guys that went to 22yrs of engineering school and haven't ever had "hands on" experience.

even if it was physically possible to put in a 6th gear, what would be the point? generally in a car that has 6 gears all the gears are shorter than they would be if it was only 5. other than a lower cruisng speed on the freeway (which could be done by just changing out the 5th gear), adding a 6th great would be pointless.
The RSX more or less has the same gearing as the Type R/B16 but has the 6th gear to bring the rpms down on the highway. Thus the entire purpose is to have my full 5 gears just as they are plus an "overdrive" for highway cruising.

There was a thread in the truck / SUV forum pointing to another forum where someone added a 6th to their Element. Aparently, they only needed a couple of parts from the TSX transmission, all of which they got from the dealer. $168.30 in total cost.
Here
So, the concept of just adding in the 6th isn't rediculous. However, I really doubt you'll find too many cars that have the space in their transmission housing for the additional gear. I'm assuming that Honda is reusing as much as possible between the different K powered cars, which is why the Element 5 speed has space.
