Default Fuel gauge not working?

I have a 89 hf and the fuel gauge isnt working? I bought the car like this and the guy said it worked before he had to hard wire the fuel pressure sensor(I dont know if that the right part)

Can anyone give some advice? Is it not working because he hardwired whatever sensor that was?

sounds like the sending unit is broken

you can get to it through the inside of the car,,remove the storage compartment, then remove the silver metal cover, then that thing under there is it..unpluge it,,unscrew it and pull it up,then check the resistance on the terminals while moving the float..you check the ohms while putting the float at empty, then 1/2 tank, then full tank,,,,im not sure of the specs right now but its in the helms i have at home.
