Default How do I change the horn on my Civic 99 Ex ?

Hello,

I have a Canadian Civic 99 Si (American EX). I work in an industrial area and lots of trucks dont even look where they are going. My horn they can't even hear and after almost being crushed I decided this horn has to go and get a new LOUDER horn !!!
I search but I can't find what horn's are compatible and how to replace it.

I am guessing its the little speaker mounted on the radiator i can cut the two wires and attach anouther horn.
no? if so which do you recommend? something loud but not illegal.

remove your front bumper and locate the horns.

You can switch the horn for something louder. Hella makes some nice ones. Check http://safedrives.com/products.asp?cat=60 for some good deals.

BTW, all of these should be legal.

yeah just mount a new one and hook the wires up, get a used horn from an early 90's caddilac they're damn loud. or if u want to spend a little cash look at an air horn or something.

I agree. Those Hella horns are loud as hell!

You could always get one of those air horn cans and blare that out the window until you find a replacement horn.

they're usually mounted on the radiator support front crossmember. You may not HAVE to take off the front bumper, but it would make it a HELL of a lot easier.

The horn will look like a little semi-flat disk with wire loom/wires coming from it. About the size of a sand dollar if you know what I mean. You may be able to get to it from under the hood, you should definitely be able to "touch" it from underneath the car but I dont know if you'll have enough room to remove/replace it from under the car.

I think its held on by one little 10mm bolt.

Rust is like that down here on the east coast of the US too man...it sucks soo bad. One of the only reasons i'd love to live in a state that doesnt get snow. Not only does snow suck to drive in (opinion), but it rusts the **** out of our cars, and the plows create potholes you could hide a dead body in.

I've done a lot of research and the best product is Krown but the only problem is that it runs (very liquidy)
So best get it done at your mechanic. To apply Krown and then on top put really cheap thick stuff on top(if its rubbery its best). to keep the krown in.

My friend's 1994 civic does not have a spec of rust and its been his winter beater till now using this combination

Good to know! Is this stuff available in the States? I've never heard of it. Can you buy it online only, or is it one of those things you'll find at PepBoys/Kragen/Autozone type places?

I called around and I can't find a place that wants to sell it under 70$CND (4L enough for a car supposably) and 109$CND to put it on. http://www.krown.com/ thats their site. I am not sure your allowed to ship that over the border...
