Default Head Studs

Are they needed FOR SURE if you're taking the head apart? I'm changing the head gasket, water pump, timing belt, etc. All that good stuff. Just need to make sure I NEED these before I put it back together.

Uh, without headbolts (or studs) you cant put the head back on Since your not boosted or making serious power you could get away with using the headbolts. But if you plan on doing any big modding i suggest the studs.

Alright sounds good, hopefully it holds up till I get my y8 swap.

are you swapping your y5 to a y8?

you know you could just swap cams + rocker assemblies. Or get a regrind for your y5 cam.

Yea that's what I want to do. But if I can get a full swap for cheaper, then I guess I'd go that route. If I swapped cams + Rocker assemblies wouldn't I still need to change ECU/Wiring etc. to get it running right?

yes, you'd have to change out all that stuff.

You do realize that the y8 only has 13 more hp than the y5, your best bet is to just use the ex trans.

Yea I know, but I'd be building up the y8 for turbo on the side, meanwhile the y5 goes to **** while I turbo it. That is only if I can find a complete one, if not I'll end up just swapping the cam and rockers

Oh trust me, I already got that down. Converted from CVT Auto to 5spd EX Manual.

the D16y5,7,8 motors have headbolts that can be re-used.
The D15b7 & D16z6's have stretch headbolts that should not be reused. (they also cost 3x as much as the D16y* headbolts
