Default Hatchback Dyno... Slightly OT

The set-up:
-JDM ITR Pistons .25” over bore
-Mugen Head Gasket
-3 angle valve job
-ITR valve springs
-CTR cams
-Skunk2 intake manifold
-JDM DC header
-AEM 3” (ITR) intake
-Fluidyne radiator
-Thermal R&D exhaust
-2.5” test pipe
-Chipped ECU
-VAFC
Timing seemed best at 16degrees. Tried 18 with some detonation - I believe that I need some colder plugs. I was using a stock heat range. Fuel pressure was 45psi at atmosphere. The fuel curve was pretty fat all the way through with a very fat spot around 5000 - 5500. No cam gears yet so my tuning was a little limited. We did about 12 runs and got very consistent data. The curves look much like any other GSR/TYPE R with that first hump in the torque curve coming in a little later at 4500rpm.

The torque peaked at 127 wheel at 6000rpm , and peak power was 175wheel at 7600pm. This was a net gain of 35 whp! My basline runs last summer, on the same dyno, was 140whp.

A/F - notice the fat section around 5k

Has anyone else here seen such a fat AF curve in the 5000 - 5500k range?

Whats your compression that caused you to detonate, and were you using premium gas?

Compression is 11.85:1... I was running 92octane. I usually run 93 but I was in the middle of nowhere WI when I filled up and all they had was 92.

When I go back I will bring some 98octane and see how it goes.

Even on 93 I was getting a little detonation at 3/4 to full throttle around 4k rpm.

odd, even with ctr pistons i didnt see a lot of detonation with stock '6' plugs
and 91-93 octane.

side note: i was considering a dynapack, but those graphs are so ugly

I agree. I am getting the raw data so I can plot them in Excel

Thanks for the invite Clayton. Learned quite a bit and it's funny to watch that whole crowd there drool over the hatchcrap and lurch towards the engine bay as you opened the hood. Sweet ride without a doubt. Can't wait to get a ride in it someday!

I can't believe I suggested to you the VTEC crossover ~4600-4800 rpm. I was so thinking about a GS-R intake manifold and somehow forgot about your Skunk2.

Take care. I saw Sam and his SE-R at Miller Park today. Where were youuuuu?

That must be a older dynapack dyno as the new one I've dynoed on has much better graphing.

Aaron - anytime... I just wish it wasn't such a long *** "boring" drive. Next time you'll have to bring someone for the drive!

Actually I really think the best vtec crossover is between 4800 and 5000 rpm on that motor. It is not a super smooth change, but it fits the torque curve.

Where was I on Sunday? I was warm and dry Actually I went to Road America to watch a friend race in ITS.

I'm going racing for sure next weekend in Lake Geneva.

I'm not sure what version of the software he has. I know he got the dyno last year. It is a Dynapak 3000.

I'm going to make my own plots. I will put them up tomorrow.
