I know that you have to modified the botton of the block in order to use after market rods like the eagle rods tunner toys ect. My question is, Can I do this myself? I told the Machine shop to do it for me and they told me that they have to put the crank with the bearings and then connect the rod in order for them to know. All this is fine, but I have the feeling they are gonna charge an arm and leg since they have to "put the engine together". Can I do this myself, with a rotary grider perhaps? I just want to save money and use it for whatever else I need to finish the project. Thank you guys before hand.

I keep hearing that the eagle rods have a new desing that doesn't require the notching of the block, is this true on d-series engines as well, cause I just got a set from summit racing not to long ago. Can someone verify this for me.
Notching the block is a D series issue only, so they couldn't have been talking about any other series. I haven't hear about D series rod that doesn't require notching.
OP- Yes, you can notch your own block. It's fairly easy, and if after reading this:

your machine shop wants to still assemble the motor, they're raping you. Handle it yourself, then take it in for a good cleaning and have them size the bearings.
