I've kept hearing this clicking or ticking noise from what first seemed to be inside the engine bay of the car. At first I thought it may just be the plastic valve cover thingy rattling around, but realized that it was on tight. After examining the noise a bit further, I noticed that it only really happend when the car was moving, and more importantly, it happened most of the time when the car was in 2nd or 5th gear.

The other day when I was on my morning commute, I held my hand on the shift **** a little bit longer than normal and noticed that the ticking sound went away. As soon as I lifted my hand it was back. It feels like the shifer itself is a little bit loose, and if it's not held in a certain spot when it's in gear, it makes this ticking noise...not like a grind, but something similar on a much, much, lighter level.

Anyone else have this sorta problem? I'm not a fan of holding the shifter all the way into one corner or another to make the noise go away.

Pushing the shifter while the car is in gear is probably a bad idea. You could likely wear out bearings in the transmission more quickly.

It sounds like the problem is related to the linkage between the shifter and the transmission rather than the transmission itself. When you press on the shifter, you eliminate some slack in the linkage and the noise goes away. Take it to a dealer... they can probably check it out and adjust something.

 

my secound does that like i can see the **** rattle but i have a spoon **** and its shorter and lighter then the oem one so i guess thats why mine does it
