According to my temperature gauge my car is running hot. The 1st time i notcied it there was steam coming from under the hood. I changed my thermostat as suggested, but the gauge is still saying that my car is hot. I have plenty of oil and there's coolant left in the resovoir. I thought maybe I should flush the radiator and fill it back up. Is there anything else I can try?

 

maybe u got bad temp. sensor...its located under dizzy

 

Yes, you could do that also compression test each cylinder to check the head gasket. You can also drain some coolant from the radiator to see if any of the oil and coolant mixed.. if so then it is deffanetly the headgasket. My problem one time was I kept getting air bubbles, to get rid of them you must idle the car until hot, then sqeeze hoses until fluid runs freely, also check for coolant leaks, just because your resevoir is full doesnt meen there is plenty of coolant! good luck!

 

when you turn the vehicle off, does the needle for the temp go all the way down. On my old car it didn't and would always max out when running. My Speedo was also messed up so I had to get a new cluster. When I swapped clusters the temp gauge was showing normal so I guess the gauge in my old cluster was screwed up.

 

One of my friends told my that if I removed the oil cap and saw like a caramel or milky color then I blew my headgasket. And I didn't see anything like that. The temp gauge goes down when I turn the car off. When the gauge runs all the way up and I put the car in neutral the rpm starts dropping and rising like the engine is gonna fade out and I saw a lot of gray smoke comming out the exhaust.
