Default Swapping a B16B EK9 into a Crx B16A Sir

I have a JDM Crx Sir 1991 with a B16A completely standard. My sister recently wrote off an EK9 with a B16B also completely standard.

I want to swap the engine and have a quick crx because it needs a new engine and tranny anyway.

So what do I need to do?

The engine should bolt in, same mounts
I need a hasport hydro to cable clutch conversion
I want to run the stock EK9 ecu on obd2, so get a conversion harness
Convert the current 2 O2 sensors to 1 4 wire O2 Sensor

Do I keep the same driveshafts or do I need different ones?

Is that it? Or is there more to it? Will I get a bunch of cells because its OBD2 in a OBD0 chassis?

Thanks for your input.

along with the harness, you will need the ECU to get any benefits from the new motor. everthing else just swaps over.

why would that give you codes because of the chassis? If the motor is running on its own ecu with the prper jumper=no prblems

I was just reading about people that were thinking about swapping from OBD0 to OBD2 engines and they were told it was better to swap to OBD1 so that you don't get cels. I didn't understand why OBD2 would give more cels that OBD1.

Yeah i would use the EK9 ecu.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Your swap shouldn't be too hard.
It wouldn't be much different than swapping a B18C into a CRX.
You'll need the timing belt "post" mount, from block to rubber motor mount, from a 90-93 Integra.
I would wire it for OBD1 since OBD2 will have extra sensors that aren't needed and won't make any more power than OBD1.
On the other hand OBD2 will get you the correct ECU for a B16B engine.
Here in the USA, Type R ECUs look for a special ignition switch and the ignition key from the Type R.
As for axles, I don't know how long EK axles are but if they are the same length as 94+ Integra GSRs, they'll work. If you replace the axle seals in the tranmission, you can reuse your CRX axles.

So the B16A and the B16B don't use the same engine mounts? if I went OBD1 would a stock P28 work ok (as good as the standard type r ecu) or would I have to get it chipped and tuned?

A B16B uses a GSR/ITR block.
Those blocks are taller than a B16A.
The timing belt mount should be different.

I have to say go here ....
http://www.hondacrx.co.uk/forum

My old CRX was a JDM SIR with a JDM B18 ITR swap which i did myself

"The engine should bolt in, same mounts"
The engine will using the b16a mounts but you'll need some bolts for the cam belt side. If you plan to use the EK9 gearbox the mounts wont fit & the swap mounts made by say hasport wont fit unless you drill out the chassis side of the mount & move it back to where it would be if the car was a d series chassis!

"I need a hasport hydro to cable clutch conversion"
If you sort out the above then yes you can use the hasport conversion but you'll need to find a longer clutch cable. I buddie of mine is using my hasport mount kit & conversion kit right now (as my projects on hold) & he's found that the RHD clutch cable is abt 1" too short He's posting on the CRX UK site above about the problems so its best for you to join up to learn

"I want to run the stock EK9 ecu on obd2, so get a conversion harness"
USDM conversion harness's dont work without changing a fair amount on OBD0 Vtec cars as they have different pinouts to the USDM cars. IMO I'd just chip your ECU to suit the b16b again there's loads of info on CRX-UK or PGMFI.

"Convert the current 2 O2 sensors to 1 4 wire O2 Sensor"
See above

"Do I keep the same driveshafts or do I need different ones?"
Depends what gearbox your going to end up with

HTH

Thanks a lot, great info. Not as simple as I thought. I'll have to do a ton more research i think.

I could be wrong but I'm 99% sure the trans mount you need will be from the EK9.
There is a difference between cable and hydro trans mounts but it is the location on the trans, not where the motor mount is.

You'd use the EF rear mount, EF front mount, the timing belt mount would be a combo of 90-93 Integra post mount and the EF mount and the trans mount is the EK9.

There is no HASport mount kit, but you will need the HASport hydro to cable conversion kit minus the motor mount.

Another option would be to find a 92-93 B series cable trans case and swap the EK9 guts into it. Then you'll have a cable EK9 trans.

Again 99% sure that the pinouts are the same on all OBD0 cars.

You'll have to double check by searching to for 90-93 Integra guys using hydro transmissions.
