Default Anyone ever heard their axle "knock"? I think my inner CV is shot

well I started hearing a vibration noise while driving today, it is most noticable with the clutch in from 35-60mph. I drove it like 12 miles like this, has gotten somewhat louder. I replaced the inner CV boot 2 weeks ago, I put the tripod bearings in upside down, figured it out, and reinstalled it correctly before driving it. I also lost track of which bearing goes where (I think I did this on the other side a couple years back as well, never had an issue). I also have 242whp, which I regularly check lol. The noise sounds like a low knock, it is relative to my speed, I here it in the driverside axle area, and can feel it through the clutch peddle, I am pretty sure thats what it is. Any ideas or experiences?

I like having 2 cars

you said yourself what the problem probably is. what exactly are you asking for? nobody's gonna go out and check your car for you. remanufactured axles suck. a friend of mine called me stupid for taking the time to replace my torn cv boots instead of just buying reman axles, until he bought a set. he then knew why i stayed away from that crap.

some experience with the problem, i.e. if it is what I think, if I have to get a new one etc. Why else would I ask?

I'm sure you already checked this, but are your wheels torqued correctly? we repainted my friends wheels on his project gsr and never retorqued the wheel after the paint had been pressed in place from lug. So it was making a knocking and we assumed it was his axle, but we realized it was only the loose wheel

holy crap you were right,... I feel really stupid now. Usually I snug them up before I drop it down, then torque them at 80 with it on the ground. This time I just used the L bar and never rechecked it, it was the only wheel loose and the only one I took off the other week.

I have done that 3 times to date, that is - work on car, put wheels back on, tighten lugs finger tight, drop car to ground, then go out and test drive but forget to tighten lug nuts (driving around with only finger-tight lug nuts ).

usually when your inner CV joint craps out, you'll know it by a severe vibration only while under load (throttle open). When you take your foot off the gas pedal the vibration should go away.
