00 SI transmission question?
i have 00 SI with a short shifter and an aftermarket performance clutch i'm not sure of the brands becuase it already had it when i bought it, the car has 56,000 mi. well i started to notice that when i shift into 5th gear and i'm over 3K r.p.m.s i feel and hear a grind, since i bought it i could feel it but not as often as i do know. the only way i don't grind if i'm accelerating hard is if i press the clutch for a long time until the rpms dropp below 3K. anybody has an idea what my be the problem thanks.
replacing a synchro is going to be costly and take time if you do it yourself. i would first put in some GM syncromesh oil in the tranny and see how that works out. sometimes it solves the problem, sometimes it doesn't...i
my gsr tranny does the same thing only it's in 3rd anywhere above 3k rpm. i asked a shop how much it would be to replace the syncros and they said i would be better off just getting a used tranny.

have you checked the fluid level in the tranny? 5th gear is the first one to start grinding if there's not enough fluid.

i just replaced the fluid with Honda MTF and it doesn't grind as often but it still grinds. has anyone ever changed the synchros in their tranny if so how much did it cost? also why do they go bad?

In any Honda I've owned, 5th gear has grinded. Don't start worrying about it until 3rd gear starts grinding. Most honda trannies grind SOMEWHERE.
