Default gas lens

What exactly is a gas lens? I had always understood it to be a replacement part for a collett body in a tig torch so that the argon exits along the axis of the tungsten instead of out the sides towards the ceramic cup.

yeah, kinda. Its a larger cup that allows the argon to cover more of the weld, and apparently, helps maximize gas coverage. I'll be investing in one soon.

Thats what I'm hoping for. My steel welds are pretty good, but to make them look nice I have to turn the Argon WAY up. Aluminum welds are still eh, but maybe this will help me get a little more consistency about them.

If you want great color from your stainless welds, this will help a great deal. I used to use it on all my stainless welds but Ive since gotten a lot better at the right technique and I can get damn nice color without it.

less is sometimes more... aluminum i crank the gas up on but for steel and stainless i have found that barely any gas welds the best. try lowering the pressure. maybe its just me though. lol

Just used a gas lens for the first time on aluminum and all I can say is WOW. If I knew I could get such clean looking welds with it.
