Oil leak b/t axle and intermediate shaft, easy fix?

I was up underneath my car the other day and noticed that oil was leaking for this connection. Is this an easy fix? Is that tranny oil leaking? or is there some grease packed bearing? Which would be the more cost effect fix? Just replace the intermediate shaft?
Any help is appreciated.
if im not mistaken there is a rubber seal in the IM shaft that you can replace for a few bucks..Buy that from Honda and replace it, see if it fixes the problem..I dont think its a torn boot as that grease looks thin (Axle grease is THICK and goopy) Looks alot like sludge or mud when it gets dirty underneath
Thanks for the quick response...
I wonder if the bearing is ok? Would I have to repace any of the grease?
My concern would be... if I was that deep and swaping a new bearing would be easy, then why not attempt it. I've got 90K miles on the car.

what are you calling a bearing?? If you mean the boot on the axle..youd have to replace the entire axle...If you can afford to buy new ones then go for it since you have to remove them to replace the seal anyway
He is talking about the bearing and seal in the intermediate shaft.
To the OP, if you had your axle replaced recently, that could be some lube that has come back out of the splines on the shaft when they installed it. Also, you can grab that cv joint housing and interm shaft in the pic and try to move it up and down, side to side, and if the intermediate shaft bearing has any play, you should feel it. If it is rock solid, don't worry IMHO. 90K miles is just broken in on a Honda anyway.

That "connection" has no oil or grease in it....thus its not leaking. Its most likely something further up leaking down and/or when you changed your oil last, oil from the filter was spilled and it dripped down on the half shaft. My point is, it can't be "leaking" because there is no oil there that could possible be leaking....thus its from another source.

Amen to that. I'll try what you suggested.

There has to be a bearing in there. The shaft spins, held by a mount. That leads me to believe there is a grease packed bearing. Anyhow, thanks for your response, I will check above it to make sure thre isn't anything else leaking.
The odd thing when I felt the liquid, it was really greasy. I was suprisingly thin. My first though was some water or something. But when I took a sniff of it, it had a very strong odor.

There is a bearing in there, however ball bearings do not require grease like bushings. Some are lubed with a thin oil, however it is not the case with the intermediate shaft bearing. If its thin, then it is oil and not grease (ie, not out of the axle joint). Like I said, the most likely source is the dripping oil when you change the filter (being that its straight north) and/or a leaky seal on the engine. Its unlikely that tranny fluid magically found its way 16"s to the drivers side, so thats probably easy to rule out. Depending on how old the engine is (and who built it), its possible that oil was put in the shaft to prevent it from rusting.....if you've ever dealt with a CV thats rusted in the wheel hub or half shaft, you'll soon find yourself putting some oil or grease in there to prevent dealing with it again.

When I took the picture, I was probably about 1000 miles past due for an oil change.
Well, I had given it a good wiping when I took the picture, and haven't been under since. I will look further.
