Default High Pitched Chattering

I'm getting a weird high pitched chattering noise coming from the area around my valve cover/ intake manifold. It sounds like a chirping timing chain, except my car doesn't have a timing chain. Anybody experience this before? I had a valve adjustment about 4K mi ago, could it be a loose valve? Thanks in advance.

LMA? Heat shield? Is it a ticking or a rattling sound?

you could be hearing you valves iup and down the older a motor gets the more you'll hear this noise it could be the springs they get all loose, and loose they're ability to well spring

That's what a valve adjustment is for, which the OP said he got done. And the springs can never wear that much... if they couldn't handle pushing the valves closed at idle then he'd be bending valves at like 2k rpm. Does the noise sound like a ticking sound? Maybe it's the LMAs going bad and letting the vtec rockers bounce around. Does the sound go away when you hit vtec?

Sometimes "light" noises are very hard to hear "in vtec" due to how loud the engine gets.

Yeah, it sounds like a high pitched ticking/chirping noise, and it'll only do it at idle. Once I start to press the gas, even slightly, it seems to go away, but that could just be due to the increased engine noise.

I was going to say that, if it goes away in vtec then it's probably the LMAs.

Have the same problem. Give it any throttle and it gets rid of the sound. I have 132k on my car, btw.

Lost motion assemblies. They're springs that sit under the vtec rockers so that when vtec isn't engaged, the vtec rockers don't just flop around up and down. They're known to go bad and make a ticking sound.

Do a search, the GSRs cost out the ***. People use the Preludes with washers instead due to the cheap price. This may or may not be the problem though.

And also, GSR and Type-R LMAs are exactly the same unlike some people say (only difference is the Type-R ones have a little dab of paint on them I think). But like 95 Integra said, you can use Prelude LMAs with washers. You can search and find more info on that on H-T, I think someone did a writeup on it that I think I remember reading a long time ago.

On barancoacuraparts.com the GSR LMAs are $32.44 each, and $7.45 each for Prelude ones on hondaautomotiveparts.com.

Hey thanks. I bought the car at 97K mi, and switched over to synthetic oil at 105K. Might this have caused the LMA's to wear prematurely?
