Default DX Owners, 4 wheel disc brakes.....I'm completely stumped

Guys

I recently picked up this 94 4dr DX for really cheap, but it was in need of some serious maintence. I started to work on the brakes first, and I've literally stumped myself at this point. Ive never ever had an issue like this, and hopefully someone can help

I went to the parts store knowing the car needed brakes. So i purchased 4 rotors, and then the guy asked me if it was 4 wheel disc or 2, I assumed 2, but figured it could be 4, so I purchased both sets of pads.

I get home, and I cant get either sets of pads to work. The 2 wheel disc brake pads seem to fit, but they are just too thick. Once I depress the piston back in the caliper, put the pads in, and bolt the caliper on to th ebracket, I cannot physically move the rotor around. I even mounted the wheel on, and its frozen.

I look at the 4 wheel disc brake pads, and they are alot thinner. Naturally this makes sense because the other ones were so thick, it was binding the brake system up. I get these pads starting to go on, and I cant even bolt the caliper back up. Here are some pictures of the caliper, and you can see its actually hitting teh brake pad, so it cant fully close. You'll also notice that these pads stick out past the brake rotors. Since they are sticking so far out, its actually hitting the caliper, allowing it not to close

You can see here the pad overhanging the rotor

Here you can see this is all the farther I can get the caliper closed....the pads are hiting it

Here is the part number on the caliper

Another shot of the over hang

Is it possible that the previous owner installed 4 wheel discs? Or possible that he had the calipers go bad, so they installed the brackets/calipers off of a 2 wheel disc brake setup?

WHen I tried using the 2 wheel disc pads, when I bolted the wheel back up, the wheel was actually rubbing the caliper (on the outside facing side)

I just do not see where the mix up is, and why I cant get these damn brakes to work!

Thanks for the help

I had this same thing happen to me on my 93. I went and bought pads for a 93 and they didn't fit. When I went back I took my original pad and ended up having to get pads for a 94. I didn't think there was a difference but obviously there is. If you have your original brake pad take it up there or just keep trying all years. Even try integra pads for a dc2.

You'll need to buy the 1994-1995 EX brake pads

What's the diameter of the rotors? That's pretty much tell you what brakes you have. If you search on the net, you can find pictures of the backing plates for all brakes that honda ever used.

I had that happen when I bought pads last time. I was 60 miles from where I bought them and the car was on my lift so we ended up grinding a little off the top and bottom of the pad to make it fit.

usually dx come with a 9" front brake disc, and from the picture, i think they are ex front brake which is 10", so u need to get the right pad for that setup

ps, just to let u know, 10" setup also has 2 different pad, it is better to bring the old pad and compare the size before u leave the shop again
