Default 98 civic cluster problem

i have a 98 civic dx (no tach), and just bought a civic ex cluster with a tach. The speedo on my previous cluster didnt work, so i changed the vss. Still nothing, so now i changed the cluster, and the rpm doesnt work, along with the speedo. My car is throwing a code which i havnt checked yet. Anyone know why the tach AND speedo dont work? also on the back of the ex cluster with tach i just bought, there is an extra green slot for a like 2 or 3 prog plug next to the yellow one. My stock cluster didnt have this plug so i dont have a green plug in my car. What is the green plug slot for?

the green plug is for cruise control, which your car doesn't have. as for the speedo not working, i have no idea. i'd start by checking the cel.

Yeah actually the speedo works fine but the tach still doesn't. Any thoughts?

what is the cel for? you're wasting time trying to figure out what the problem could be, when checking the cel could give you your answer. start with the obvious; get the code.
