is an ignitor the same thing as the coil in the distributor?

 

No the coil and igniter are different items.

 

ok...so next question. im not getting spark on the plugs should i go for the 300$ distributor or should i try to replace the coil or the ignitor first to save a little cash?

if i push start the car it will start but will not stay running...i get fuel. so thats why went checked the plug wires for spark. i get none...btw the car will not turn over on its own...starter kicks in and more turns over but will not fire up. any other suggestions??

 

find yourself another ignitor from a wrecker and give that a try. i've gone thru 3 now myself.... same problems you've discribed.
