SRI or CAI, what's best for me?
i have heard different things, so i just wanted to get the official HT opinions. my resources tell me that a SRI will give me more immediate throttle response and is better for city driving (which is what i drive mostly). on the other end of the spectrum i've been informed that CAI is better for high - end speed. however my 1998 EX Coupe had a Mugen CAI and i ran over a puddle and the engine hydrolocked. SOOOOO, what do you guys think? TIA
Normally, I'd tell you to spend a little extra and get the CAI, but since you mentioned hydrolock, get the SRI. I believe as of current, all of the CAI systems are one-piece, so there's no bypass valve.
Where to start? Intake creates midrange power both for SRI and CAI. Hydrolock is only created if you get alot of water on the filter and/or oil sucked into your engine.
Injen CAI is a single tube, but you do have an option to get a filter cover if you want. No one to my knowledge has had this issue with this intake, including myself.
AEM CAI had some fitment problems, and I do believe they offer a bypass valve. They also make a dry filter.
I would always recommend the CAI over SRI. Just running over a puddle will not cause hydrolock. You have to soak the filter pretty good before this happens.
